Advanced Practice Provider – UAB Neuro Intensive Care Unit(Neuro ICU)The following APPs may be considered for this role:
Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician AssistantWorkSchedule:
Full-time, benefited12 hr – Rotating/Blended shifts5am-5pm or 5pm to 5am (14-16 shifts per month)Weekends and holidaysare required.
PM differential: $120 per night shift-CME allowance:
Part-time benefited and Full-time benefited APPs receive an annual$2,000.00 CME allowance. This can be used for recertification,fees, CMEs, etc.
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) position forthe Anesthesia Critical Care team in the Neuroscience IntensiveCare Unit (NICU) role includes providing inpatient critical careservices and participating within an interdisciplinary team servingas a consult/co-managing service for Neurosurgery & Neurologypatients admitted to the NICU. Each APP utilizes the skillset ofperforming physical exams, obtaining history and physicalassessments as well as completing daily progress notes, structuringand facilitating medical management of critically ill patients,performing approved routine bedside procedures, as well asparticipating in multidisciplinary rounds and coordinating carewith admitting and consulting services.

General Responsibilities:
To providemedical care and treatment within established scope of practice tosurgical patients asassigned by and under the direction of thecollaborating physician (Section 610-X-5 of the Alabama Board ofNursing Administrative Code) or under supervision of aBoard-Certified Physician (Section 540-X-7 of the Alabama Board ofMedical Examiners Administrative Code). The collaborating physicianshall be available for direct communication for consultation andreferral or arrange for the same medical coverage by a physicianwho is pre-approved by the State Board of Medical Examiners in thesame manner as the collaborating physician of record. To coordinateplan of care, discharge and specialty referrals as appropriate tomeet the age specific needs of the patient. To plan and coordinatehealth care education for patient, family and other health careproviders as needed. To perform comprehensive physical examinationsand assessments. To interpret, analyze and evaluate patientsmedical record and social data. To perform and/or assist thephysician with procedures per collaborative agreement. Tocoordinate and participate in performance improvementactivities.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Based on thoroughphysical and psychosocial patient assessments, formulates andimplementscomprehensive patient care plans focused on surgicalinterventions. Plans include patient andfamily education,prescriptions, additional lab and diagnostic testing, andtherapies.2. Ensures complete documentation of patient assessments,patient care plans, and care provided.3. Orders and interpretslaboratory and other diagnostic tests for the patient.4. Maintainsrecords and reports as required by regulatory agencies and TheJoint Commission (TJC). May coordinate and/or participate inperformance and quality improvement activities.5. May assist in thecoordination of research protocols, serving as a patient advocateand a liaison between the patient and other health careproviders.6. Provides assistance in orientation and/or training ofnew clinical personnel as needed. Provideseducational informationby conducting workshops, in-service training and distributingappropriatematerials for patients and staff.7. Serves as the expertclinical resource to clinical staff and patients in the area ofspecialty.8. Provides a safe environment for patients and others.9.Demonstrates a responsible attitude toward continued professionalgrowth.10. Performs other duties as assigned.
PositionRequirements:
Minimum Requirements:
Master’s degree in Nursing withan Acute Care NP certification or graduate from an accreditedPhysician Assistant program required. Work experience may NOTsubstitute for educationrequirement.
Licenses/Certifications/Registrations:
Currentlycertified as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) with CertifiedRegistered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) Acute Care Specialty by theAlabama Board of Nursing or licensed as a Physician Assistant bythe Alabama Board of Medical Examiners with certification as aPhysician Assistant (PA-C) by the National Commission onCertification of Physician Assistants required. Certified in BasicLife Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) isrequired or should be obtained within 30 days of employment.
Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support(ACLS) certification and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)from the American Heart Association (AHA) may berequired.
