Full Job Description Clinical Medical Assistant/Cast Technician Job Summary:
The Clinical Medical Assistant provides professional clinical care for patients in an orthopaedic office setting. This role involves patient flow coordination, performing clinical tasks, assisting surgeon, and maintaining accurate medical records. The ideal candidate will possess strong customer service skills, effective communication, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Will train the right candidate without experience. Pay based on experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Management:
Greet patients and families, prepare them for examinations. Room patients in a timely manner and ensure x-rays are completed. Manage patient care flow and inform physicians when patients are ready to be seen.
Clinical Care:
Obtain vital signs, prepare laboratory specimens, and perform in-office lab tests. Perform suture and staple removal, wound care, and dressing changes. Assist with aspirations and prepare injections. Apply, adjust, and remove casts, splints, and braces. Measure and fit patients for orthopedic devices. Provide instructions on the use of crutches, walkers, and other aids.
Patient Documentation and EMR Management:
Maintain and review patient EMRs, ensuring accurate documentation. Post test and exam results, follow up on cultures, labs, and outside testing. Document services performed in the EMR system.
Assistance During Procedures:
Assist surgeon during treatments, examinations, and procedures. Prepare equipment and rooms for treatments and testing. Set up surgical fields and drape patients for surgical procedures.
Medication and Supply Management:
Ensure supplies are stored safely and check expiration dates monthly. Order medical supplies and manage inventory, including orthopedic equipment and DME. Clean and stock patient exam and treatment rooms.
Administrative Tasks:
Arrange diagnostic testing and referrals to outside facilities. Schedule follow-up appointments and consultations with specialists. Handle phone calls, schedule patients, and document calls according to guidelines. Write standard admitting and pre-op instructions for surgery patients.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required. Demonstrated knowledge of anatomy, physiology, orthopedic terminology, and aseptic techniques. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate professionally with patients and staff.

Friday Preferred Skills:
At least 1-2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant, Cast Tech or Orthopedic Tech, or military technical medic training. Experience with EMR systems. Advanced understanding of anatomical structures and their relationships. Knowledge of fracture healing, rupture, strain, sprain healing, and complications. Ability to apply and remove orthopedic equipment and supplies. Effective communication and manual dexterity skills. Qualified candidates should submit their resumes.
