Job Description The Advance Practice Provider provides a comprehensive healthassessment and evaluation for patients in the clinic under thesupervision of the Medical Director or works with physician in asurgical capacity in the operating room. Provides health careservices to patients in a under direction and responsibility ofPhysician including assessing, diagnosing, prescribing, treating,and educating patients. Works closely with physicians and otherclinicians in a team approach to patient care. May specialize in aspecific type of clinical care, e.g., geriatrics. Orders andinterprets appropriate tests i.e. labs, EKG, and Xrays underPhysician supervision. Responsibilities Assesses patient status by obtaining health history throughinterviews and chart reviews; assessing presenting illness, riskfactors, and family history, psychosocial situation, and culturalfactors; and performing appropriate examination. Orders or performs appropriate laboratory diagnostic and otherscreening tests. Seeks other information as needed, includingconsultation with physicians for evaluation of illness. Integratesdata to determine diagnosis and therapeutic plan, includingidentification of any health risks Develops and implements treatment plan byprescribing/dispensing medications and/or injections in compliancewith medical practice guidelines and state laws. Instructs and counsels patients regarding compliance withprescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development,family planning, emotional problems of daily living, and healthmaintenance. Participates in peer reviews, chart reviews, staff education,clinical guideline development, and other continuing education andquality assurance activities to demonstrate compliance withstandards, regulations, policies, and procedures. Develops andimplements patient management plans, records progress notes, andassists in provision of continuity of care. Collaborates with physicians in managing acute and long-termmedical needs of patient. Provides monitoring and continuity ofcare between visits according to treatment plan including triagingpatient calls/e-mails. Functioning in a “First Assist” capacity to physician in theoperating room, as outlined in the Medical Staff Bylaws. Ifapplicable. Assist in other duties as assigned to support the operationalneeds of the department and organization. May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during,and after severe weather and/or disasters. Qualifications Masters in Physician Assistant Studies, Health Science orMedical Science or Nursing required. Successful completion ofphysician assistant/Advanced Practice RN training and certificationas a physician assistant/APRN (general or specialized) from anapproved program. Relevant experience in developing and running patient careprograms. Current PA or APRN License in the State of Florida. Certified as National Commissioned Certification of PhysicianAssistants (NCCPA) required. BLS and ACLS through American Heart Association. Knowledge ofadvanced practice including anatomy and physiology,pathophysiology, pharmacology and therapeutics, basic nutrition,behavioral factors, psychosocial/family systems, diagnostictesting, interpretation of results and clinical decision making,alternative treatment modalities. Basic Computer Skills. Ability to document and utilize electronic health recordapplications.
