CORE JOB SUMMARY
The Physician Assistant assesses, plans, and provides patient care under the supervision of a physician. An employee in this position also examines patients, performs comprehensive physical examinations, and compiles medical data, including patients’ health history and physical examination results.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Makes preliminary diagnosis or decides on follow-up procedures. Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-rays, electrocardiograms, and blood work, and interprets test results. Performs minor procedures, such as immunizations, injections, suturing, and wound care. Develops and implements patient care plans, instructs and counsels patients, and maintains records of treatments and results. Provides general health education and assists with emergency treatment and complex procedures. Answers calls and participates in audits and inquiries related to billed services. Records concise, accurate, and legible documentation of medical data in patients’ charts. Reports and documents significant information and changes in patients’ conditions. Interprets laboratory and radiological findings as they relate to patients’ clinical presentation and current treatments. Adheres to University and Department-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets. Certification and Licensing:
Active and unrestricted license and certification as a Physician Assistant in the
State of Florida Experience:
Minimum 1 year of relevant experience is preferred

Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment. Department Specific Functions Participates as a member of a multi-disciplinary patient management team. Act as a liaison representing Ortho Oncology between the medical oncology staff, radiation oncology staff, inpatient staff, outside providers, insurance companies and patients to provide complete patient care. Navigation of patients between different oncology services to ensure patients receive timely and appropriate care. Assist with prepping faculty clinics prior to their scheduled dates. Assist with facilitating the faculty clinics to ensure efficiency and effective patient care. Assist with new and follow-up patient histories and physical exams. Facilitate with the correct ordering of studies and procedures while in faculty clinics. Function as the first clinical point of contact for your patients to provide clinical support through the entire continuum of care. Manage all patients clinical requests to include medication refills, ordering of DME/services, and completion of necessary paperwork/letters. Perform and assist with medical procedures with or without direct physician supervision within the scope of the license / certification. After training, operate and maintain an independent postoperative/follow-up clinic that will best benefit the division. Provide patient education and participates in patient/family interventions. Follow post-operative patients and monitor for and postoperative complications. Consult with patients and prospective patient/families by phone. Evaluate/triage need for care and advise regarding appropriate interventions including need for emergency treatment. Consult with other professionals regarding decision-making for patient care as needed. Participate in decision-making with patients by providing information regarding pathophysiology and benefits/risks of treatment options. Coordinate research / clinical trials including Human Subjects Research Committee communication, consent forms, and patient recruitment. Coordinate data collection and patient activities (clinical follow-ups, etc.) in clinical research. Assist with clinical and administrative staff development.
