Position Summary:

Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida is searching for a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner with neurosurgery experience, to join a growing Neurosurgical group. The ideal candidate will provide care to patients in the clinic, hospital, and other medical environments following established clinical standards and practices. They will work with the entire team to ensure the delivery of high quality and efficient health care. This position will require weekend coverage and rotating call.
Responsibilities
Operates with the highest degree of independence with minimal physician supervision and generally in highly specialized area.
Obtains detailed history and performs physical examination, diagnostic studies and recognizes deviations from the normal.
Develops a diagnosis and works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to formulate and implements the treatment plan.
The Advanced Practice Provider will assist OR staff and anesthesiologists in the preparation of the patient.
Performs operative positioning and marking of the patient independently with verification by the physician.
Assists in Neurosurgical cases as designated by the surgeons.
Performs complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as credentialed in diagnosing medical and surgical problems.
Prescribe necessary treatment and services for quality patient care.
Manages patient care based on lab results, physical exam, diagnostic and follow-up studies, and therapeutic measures.
Assists in admission and discharge care in accordance with evidence-based medicine.
Writes “brief op note” in compliance with OH standards immediately following completion of each operation or procedure.
Dictates and documents in an accurate and timely manner.
Performs daily rounds independently or with attending physician and/or resident(s).
Conducts or participates in multidisciplinary rounds.
Participates in the department call rotation and/ or weekend/ holiday rounding as required.
Assists in providing care to patients receiving surgery- writes appropriate orders, including perioperative orders and medications.
Participates in quality initiatives to ensure consistent attainment of key quality indicators.
Participates in certain aspects of clinical research as designated by the surgeon.
Acts as an advanced resource or lead worker and precepts one student per year as per student availability
Obtains and maintains competencies in minor bedside procedures that are appropriate to the specialty patient population and independent of the physician including all specialty expanded privileges (e.g. ICP monitors, ventriculostomies…)
Maintains record of procedures for physician review and assessment on a regular cadence (FPPE/OPPE).
Ability to provide verbal overview of Neurosurgery procedures with physician that they may not have completed during the previous

cycle.
Present one educational lecture yearly to office staff or clinical staff in the hospital (e.g. RNs, PT, OT, SLP, CNAs
Qualifications
Ability to obtain a Florida license
Possession of an active National Certification from an accrediting board (

IE:

NCCPA, American Nurses Credentialing Center Commission on Certification – ANCC, or American Association of Nurse Practitioners – AANP)
Registered Nurse First Assist certification or surgical experience for any NP applying
Three (3) years nurse practitioner or physician assistant experience as a neurosurgical advanced practice provider performing all aspects of neurosurgical care, including surgical first assistance.
