Videos Duties The Orthopedic Physician Assistant (PA) in both the Inpient Surgical Unit and Outpient Clinical Care is a key member of the orthopedic surgical care team responsible for providing advanced clinical care to pients with musculoskeletal conditions. The PA operes under the supervision of the tending orthopedic surgeons and collabores with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive pient care in both inpient and outpient settings. Clinical Assessment and Management (Inpient and Outpient): Conduct comprehensive physical examinions and obtain detailed medical histories of pients. Perform preoperive, intraoperive, and postoperive evaluions. Order, review, and interpret diagnostic tests such as X-rays, MRI, CT scans, and laborory results. Develop, implement, and evalue trement plans in collaborion with the supervising orthopedic surgeon. Prescribe medicions and other forms of trement as approprie.

Surgical Assistance:

Assist in orthopedic surgeries, including joint replacements, fracture fixions, and other musculoskeletal procedures. Perform technical surgical tasks such as suturing, wound closure, and applicion of immobilizion devices under the direction of the surgeon. Ensure sterile techniques and pient safety protocols are maintained during surgical procedures. Inpient Care (Surgical Inpient Unit): Manage and monitor pients in the inpient surgical unit, ensuring timely assessment and interventions in response to pient needs. Perform bedside procedures such as joint aspirions, wound care, and casting/splinting. Coordine with nursing and ancillary staff to facilite pient care and discharge planning. Manage postoperive care, including pain management, rehabilition protocols, and monitoring for complicions.

Inpient Rounds:

Conduct daily inpient rounds to assess pient progress, address new or ongoing concerns, and modify trement plans as necessary. Collabore with the orthopedic surgical team, nursing staff, and other healthcare providers during rounds to ensure cohesive pient care. Document pient progress, trement modificions, and care plans promptly and accurely in the electronic health record system. Communice effectively with pients and their families to provide updes on pient stus and answer any questions or concerns.

Discharge Planning:

Develop comprehensive discharge plans in collaborion with the healthcare team, ensuring th pients are appropriely prepared for discharge. Provide pients and caregivers with detailed instructions on postoperive care, medicion management, wound care, physical therapy, and follow-up appointments. Coordine with outpient services, home healthcare, and rehabilition facilities as needed to ensure a seamless transition from inpient to outpient care. Address and mitige potential barriers to discharge, such as medicion access, transportion, and home support.

Outpient Clinical Care:

Conduct outpient clinics to diagnose, tre, and manage common orthopedic conditions, such as fractures, arthritis, sports injuries, and musculoskeletal disorders. Perform minor procedures in the outpient setting, such as joint injections, aspirions, and casting. Educe pients on preoperive and postoperive care, including rehabilition exercises, activity modificions, and lifestyle changes. Follow up on post-surgical pients to monitor recovery progress and address any ongoing concerns. Coordine outpient referrals and consultions with other medical specialties as needed. Ensure continuity of care through comprehensive documention and communicion with primary care providers and other specialists.

Educion and Counseling:

Educe pients and their families about medical conditions, surgical procedures, postoperive care, and rehabilition. Provide guidance on lifestyle modificions, exercise regimens, and injury prevention stregies. Participe in the educion and training of medical students, residents, and other healthcare providers.

Documention and Compliance:

Maintain accure and timely medical records in the electronic health record system. Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulory standards. Participe in quality improvement initiives and contribute to clinical research projects as approprie.

Professional Development:

Engage in continuing medical educion activities to stay upded with advancements in orthopedic care. Attend departmental meetings, conferences, and workshops to enhance professional knowledge and skills. Contribute to the development and implemention of clinical protocols and guidelines.
