Job Description

This vacancy will be posted on internal Career Website for 5 business days. Associates are eligible to apply for a lateral transfer after completion of one (1) year of service in their present position, with the following exception: an Associate who has received a written warning is not eligible for a transfer/promotion prior to six (6) months from date of issuance; an Associate who has been suspended is not eligible for transfer/promotion prior to one (1) year from date of suspension. Part-time Associates who have completed their probationary period can move to full-time vacancies within their department provided such movement will not unreasonably reduce the operational efficiency of that department. Probationary period is three (3) months for full-time employees, and four (4) months for part-time employees who works more than 3/5 of the normal workweek. Probationary period will not apply to shift changes. The Senior Surgical Physician Assistant for the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery will be responsible for providing all clinical duties of a Cardiothoracic Surgery PA as well as administrative duties including leadership, direction, education, and supervision to physician assistants within the Department of CT Services. This position has a rotation schedule of 3/ 12.5hrs shifts per week,6:30am-7pm or 6:30pm-7am , mix of weekdays, nights and weekends and holidays. The Senior Surgical PA will be required to travel to other locations Responsibilities include but not limited to -Must be able to perform the professional, clinical, and technical competencies, including daily rounding with multidisciplinary team, formulation and implementation of plan of care, invasive bedside procedures, and ACLS protocols. -Writes orders for medications, laboratory work, and diagnostic tests. Interprets laboratory and diagnostic test results. -Direct, educate and mentor staff in the development of sound clinical judgment, encourage positive patient outcomes. Including, but not limited to; training of PA’s in the operating room, floor and out patient areas -Coordinates safe discharge/transfer of cardiac services patients -Assist Chief PA with departmental quality initiatives, scheduling and interviewing potential candidates Requirements Bachelor’s degree or Master’s Degree from Accredited Physician Assistant Program required Current NCCPA Board Certification (National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants) required Current New York State License required Current BLS and ACLS Certification required Current Infection Control Certification required Five Years experience as a Physician Assistant required
