Physician Office Assistant

6 3.6 out of 5 stars York, PA Schedule As needed (2 12-hour shifts per month minimum, 1 shift being a weekend shift) General Summary Performs a variety of clerical office duties related to telephone management, receiving patients, insurance/billing, record management, and scheduling. Will have the ability to float to Medical Group practices as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities Essential Functions:
Answers telephones, routes callers, takes messages and provides routine information to callers. Greets and registers patients in accordance with established policies and procedures. Schedules patient appointments within established parameters. Schedules patient appointments for patients with other provider offices including correct processing of necessary referral forms, pre-authorization forms, test instructions, patient benefit verification and transfer of patient information. Performs various duties for effective check-in and check-out of patients. Processes patient charges. Collects copays, deductibles and account balances. Performs various tasks related to end of day batch control, cash drawer etc.. Enters and/or retrieves data from established computer files using knowledge of various computer software applications. Processes requests for patient information according to policies and procedures. Researches billing questions and problems for patients with billing service. Types various letters, memos, and reports, as needed. Proofs materials for errors. Ensures patient confidentiality. Manages the insurance referral process according to policy. Keeps staff current on changes. Preps patient charts for daily visits.

Qualifications Minimum Education:
High School Diploma or GED Post High School Vocational/Specialized Training (Professional Medical, Administrative or Business School)
Required Work Experience:
Less than 1 year 3
- 6 months of physician office experience
Required Courses and Training:
Medical terminology within 180 days
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal/communications skills Knowledge of medical office operations to include reception, billing and insurance and general office skills Computer skills
