The Department of Pathology, Division of Laboratory Medicine, at the University of Alabama at Birmingham is seeking an Academic Hematopathologist with American Board of Pathology (ABP) board certification for an open rank/open tenure-earning Asst/Assoc/Full Professor position, depending on the candidate’s qualifications. Applicants must have a MD, MD/PhD or DO andpleted a formal ABP-fellowship in hematopathology. Candidates must have special clinical proficiency in lymph node pathology, bone marrow interpretation and experience in interpretation of flow cytometric and molecular data. Prospective faculty will be expected to provide diagnostic and consultation service, participate in fellow, resident, and medical student education, and take part in ongoing collaborative efforts by a multidisciplinary team of well-established clinical investigators. Expertise in machine learning algorithms, the application of artificial intelligence to laboratory medicine, and digital pathology are highly desirable. Salary, rank, and tenure status aremensurate with experience and background. Recruitment for this positiones at an opportune time, as the Section and Division are experiencing significant growth in our clinical service, educational, and research missions. The Section serves UAB Hospitals (over 1,200 beds; the eighth largest in the USA), offering a wide array of hematopathology services. Teaching responsibilities include medical students, residents, and fellows, as well as the opportunity to teach graduate students in the Graduate Biomedical Sciences program. At the heart of UAB’s downtown campus, opportunities abound for research collaboration throughout the university. Unique research opportunities for an academic hematopathologist include: 1. Access to an impressive array of institutional research cores, offering cutting-edge resources and expertise to support groundbreaking research in blood malignancies. 2. Access to the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center and largemunity of cancer biologists to pursue collaborative tumor marker research. 3. The presence of a large collaborative immunology researchmunity and wellanized Immunology Institute with a solid research infrastructure including weekly research seminar series and pilot grants. 4. Access to the CLIA and CAP-accredited Lab Medicine Reference Lab with cutting-edge diagnostic equipment and personnel to assist in the rapid development and implementation of novel highplexity diagnostic assays, as well as the evaluation of novelmercial diagnostic platforms. 5. Departmental and Institutional initiatives to implement digital pathology. 6. Significant Departmental and Divisional leadership support for Lab Medicine faculty to establish an independently funded translational research program including pilot grants.
