Full Job Description Overview:

The coder is primarily responsible for performing CPT-4 and ICD-10 coding from appropriate source documents, in accordance with all UFHP, B/AR and department standards related to billing protocols and compliance. The coder is also responsible for training physicians and other staff regarding documentation, billing and coding and for providing feedback to physicians regarding billing practices. The coder may participate with practice management in the oversight of certain practice billing activities as in certain billing follow-up activities. The coder is responsible for performing various administrative and clerical duties required to support these functions and on an as needed basis, may be required to perform other tasks.

Qualifications:
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

High School graduate or equivalent. CCS or CPC certification required (or obtained within one year of employment). Knowledge of medical terminology required and knowledge of human anatomy and physiology preferred. Minimum 6 months previous physician coding and abstracting experience required.

Motor Vehicle Operator Designation:

Employees in this position: Will not operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose

A frequent driver is defined as one who uses his/her personal or Shands automobile a) at least once daily, b) at least five individual trips per week or c) drives, on average, over 150 miles per week in the performance of his/her job.
