Job Description
Under indirect supervision, provides and manages direct medical evaluation, diagnosis, procedures and care for patients within a recognized area of practice, or for a specified patient population. Responsible for meeting, assessing and diagnosing patients in the clinic as well as inpatient care in St. Lucie County, FL, and providing them with healthcare services that meet state and national standards for caregiving. Responsible for prescribing patients with appropriate medication, health regimens and lifestyle adjustments that will contribute to their recovery from diagnosed health issues, prevent future health issues and/or promote a healthier life.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides and manages direct patient care, including physician examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses and treatment for a specified patient population. Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions. Refers patients to specialists and to relevant patient care components as appropriate. Manages the daily operations of a medical office. Directs and coordinates the patient care activities of nursing and support staff as required. Follows established policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvements objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards. As appropriate to the position, participates in specified health promotion, education and/or infection control standards. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Examines and treat patients with a wide range of conditions and refer those with serious ailments to a specialist or appropriate facility.
Typical job duties include:
taking patient histories performing or requesting diagnostic tests making diagnoses prescribing treatment administering vaccinations and performing follow-up examinations educating patients in disease prevention and health maintenance. Additional duties include preparing medical records, clinical reports and correspondences. Commit to delivering quality health services to patients of diverse cultural, ethnic and economic backgrounds. Provide quality care to patients according to clinical medical protocols and funding source guidelines. Initiate an appropriate assessment of patient’s health status, ranging from focused to comprehensive, depending upon the setting. Provide and manage comprehensive medical care, including diagnosis and nonsurgical treatment of diseases, common health problems, such as infections, influenza and pneumonia as well as serious chronic and complex illnesses for patients of all ages. Monitor patients’ conditions and progress and reevaluate treatments as necessary. Explain procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients. Advise patients and community members concerning diet, activity, hygiene, and disease prevention and educate patients about preventative measures to avoid illnesses. Collect, record, and maintain patient information, such as medical history, reports, and examination results and prepares reports and correspondence related to the work. Refer patients to medical specialist or other practitioner when necessary. Prescribe medication in accordance with Florida statutes and professional practice guidelines. Immunize patients to protect them from preventable diseases. Participate in formulating, interpreting, implementing, and evaluating objectives, policies, and procedures. Assist with quality improvement activities as required and participate in Quality Assurance and Utilization Reviews. Perform diagnostic tests and procedures and therapeutic procedures, within the scope of practice, including but not limited to venipuncture; intradermal tests, intramuscular and subcutaneous injections, electro-cardiogram; application of dressings and bandages; administration of medications, cardiopulmonary resuscitation; auditory screening, visual screening, and aseptic techniques. Analyze accumulated health information and collect additional observational, interview, historical, physical examination, and diagnostic data, modifying treatment as appropriate. Have a working knowledge of ICD10, CPT and HCPCS coding and managed care, and be available for training as necessary. Maintain and complete patient health records or charts legibly, concisely and close it within 48 hours and/or by the end of serviced week.
Required Skills & Abilities:
Keep up all licenses and board certifications as required. Keep up with CME as required. Successful completion of an accredited Internal Medicine Residency and Fellowship in Infectious Disease with 3 or more years of experience. Current D.E.A. certificate. Previous experience in a hospital and/or clinic setting. Understanding of Florida mandated reporting laws. Ability to relate to culturally diverse patients and communities Doctor of Medicine (MD or DO). Must possess a Medical License MD or DO in Florida. Valid DEA license in the State of Florida. Comfortable with seeing up to 15-18 patients per day. Prior experience or interest in treating and diagnosing
HIV/AIDS
clients in an inpatient and/or outpatient setting. Must obtain AAHIVM Certification within 18 months of hire. Current CPR/BLS (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) is required.
Regulatory Requirements:
Candidate should be an MD or DO physician, board-certified in Internal Medicine and Board Certified or eligible in Infectious Diseases, with a desire to perform primary care services in addition to HIV/PrEP/STI services to a predominantly LGBTQ patient population. Prior outpatient experience in this area is desired but not mandatory. Candidate should be licensed to practice in the State of Florida with no restrictions on current or prior license DEA License is required.
Physical Demands:
Work is normally performed in a typical health clinic work environment, and/or inpatient setting which may or may not subject the employee to hazardous or unpleasant elements, noise, crowds, confined/restricted but fire hazard approved desk spaces/rooms and varying temperatures at the clinic.
