Part-time Summary The board-certified Psychiatrist will work with a mixed population, including children, adolescents and adults two to three days per week. This physician will be an independent care provider, highly skilled in the assessment and management of patients with co-occurring disorders. She/he will carry an outpatient clinical workload along with assigned administrative and professional responsibilities; conduct mental status exams; complete intake assessments and formulate diagnoses; and coordinate patient care between Behavioral Health and Primary Care. Initiates consultation, referrals, psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy as indicated; and maintains effective and up to date documentation of patient encounters. The Psychiatrist provides professional psychiatric care in a manner consistent with Whitefoord’s philosophy of care and is responsible for helping people with serious persistent mental illness achieve their greatest level of self-sufficiency. Prefer candidates with excellent interpersonal and clinical skills for providing primary mental health care to adults, children and adolescents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

1) Diagnose and treat mental health disorders. 2) Diagnose and treat substance use disorders focusing on the treatment, prevention, and awareness of opioid abuse. 3) Diagnose and treat co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. 4) Empower patients with mental health and substance use disorders to make informed decisions about their care, including pain management alternatives, treatment options, and recovery through peer counselling, patient education, or other evidence-based strategies. 5) Enhance education for patients, families, communities, and personnel to support patient engagement and self-management that includes medical conditions that often co-occur with mental health and substance use disorders. 6) Write progress notes, track outcomes, and develop reports. 7) Coordinate patient care with clinical team of providers to improve support systems resource and linkage to community referral sources. 8) Contribute to the development of Behavioral Health programming and initiatives within the organization. Assist leadership by evaluating current efforts and strategizing the use of evidence-based practices to address the behavioral health needs of consumers. 9) Provide professional learning in-service presentations to staff as needed or required. Core Responsibilities

  • Diagnostic evaluations and assessments
  • Pharmacotherapy
  • Use evidence-based treatment approaches.
  • Medical consultation to the primary care team.
  • Collaborate with other providers as needed (hospitals and clinics) to ensure continuity of care.
  • Meet monthly with the Behavioral Health Director and give feedback on progress toward patient goals.
  • Participation in monthly team meetings with other providers on shared cases to ensure coordination of services. Skills and Qualifications
  • Medical degree from an accredited medical school with post-graduate training
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the state of Georgia without restrictions
  • Board certified in adult psychiatry required; board certification in child psychiatry also preferred
  • Current DATA Waiver to treat opioid use disorder with medications specifically approved by the Food and Drug Administration for that indication
  • Experience providing MAT for patients with opioid use disorder a plus
  • Patient focused with superior interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal
  • Minimum of 3 years prior relevant psychiatric experience, post residency preferred
  • Demonstrated understanding of the clinical application of the principles of engagement, empowerment, rehabilitation and recovery
  • Experience working with community-based programs/safety nets and resources designed to aid the State Medicaid population
  • Ability to work within a team environment and collaborate with other members of BH team
  • Computer literate and experience using EHR’s preferred
  • Experience providing telehealth
Preferred Qualifications:

Bilingual skills a plus. Experience in an ambulatory health center preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Must possess above average command of speaking and writing skills.

REASONING ABILITY

Must be able to exercise sound judgment and concrete thinking when on the spot decision making is required. Ability to seek supervision for emergencies and unusual circumstances.
