May 5, 2025Position OverviewThe MaineHealth Cancer Care Network (MHCCN) is seeking a full-time Hematologist Oncologist for in-patient consultative services at Maine Medical Center (MMC), Portland, ME.

The successful candidate can expect:

To join a statewide, integrated care delivery network across southern, central, and coastal Maine, as well as eastern New Hampshire.

MHCCN is the leading cancer care provider in Maine, comprising 12 hospital partners and serving over 6,800 analytic cancer patients annually.

Our comprehensive cancer care program is accredited by ASCO QOPI, COC, NAPBC, and NAPRC.Fully integrated services including surgical oncology, radiation oncology, palliative care, patient support/social work, and nutrition.

We incorporate advanced analytics like ASCO CancerLinQ and use the

EPIC EMR

system with BEACON.Participation in a robust research program through the NCI’s Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP), with opportunities to serve as PI or sub-PI in clinical trials.

Engagement in 19 dedicated virtual board meetings monthly covering multiple cancer types such as GI/GU, liver, breast, lung, neuro-oncology, and hematologic malignancies.

A faculty position with Tufts University School of Medicine and participation in MaineHealth’s Hematology-Oncology Fellowship Program.

MMC is Maine’s leading tertiary care hospital with 700 licensed beds, a Level I Trauma Center, and affiliations with residency and fellowship programs.

ResponsibilitiesManage hematology and oncology consultations from various services across MMC.Work 40 weeks annually, Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, with APP and/or fellow support on consults.

Follow a rotation of 3 weeks on, followed by 1 week off.

Provide inpatient to outpatient transition support through hematology/oncology navigation.

Supervise and teach fellows, residents, and medical students during consult rotations.

Collaborate with a designated acute hematology inpatient unit staffed by MHCCN hematology faculty (note: the consultative physician will not manage this service).Qualifications & ExperienceMedical degree from an accredited institution.

Completion of residency and fellowship at an accredited program.

Board Certified or Board Eligible in Oncology or Hematology and Oncology.

Offers a flexible schedule with minimal outpatient in-basket responsibilities and call burden.
