SummaryVA Maine HCS is seeking a full-time Hospitalist to work at the Togus VA Medical Center in Augusta, Maine.
QualificationsTo qualify, applicants must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement.
Pending completion of training or licensing, applicants may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met.
Current VA-employed physicians who met previous qualification standards are deemed to have met the basic requirements.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship:
Non-citizens may be appointed only if qualified citizens are unavailable, according to VA Policy.
Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school.
Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the U.S. or its territories.
Completion of residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification.
Residents enrolled in accredited programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who are fully licensed but only perform restricted duties under supervision.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Board Eligible or Board Certified in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine (preferred).Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Hospitalist (preferred).Physical requirements include heavy lifting, reaching, use of fingers, walking, standing, kneeling, and good vision and hearing capabilities. DutiesManage inpatient admissions, including ICU patients with general adult medical illnesses.
Perform histories and physical examinations, round on patients, write progress notes, and discharge summaries.
Collaborate with specialists, emergency department, and primary care physicians to ensure continuous quality care.
Coordinate with Hospitalist PAs and transfer patients as needed.
Provide Internal Medicine consultations to Mental Health and Surgical Services.
Communicate effectively during handoffs using warm sign-outs.
Participate in quality assurance programs and medical record documentation.
