Nephrology position available (with no internal medicine) with hospital rounds one week out of about five, on call for a full week. Most admissions are handled by hospitalists. About 4 times a year the nephrologist on call has to go to the hospital to see a patient needing acute emergent dialysis. On weeks not on call, the nephrologists make rounds at dialysis units in six towns, has clinics in outlying hospitals, and sees office patients. Although there is a fair amount of driving, income is well above average. The current practice has 4 nephrologists, one young and three older doctors. The older physicians will be retiring in years to come and the practice will be inherited by the younger physicians will full autonomy to set the parameters and make the rules. Currently we have many medical directorships; more information will be given to applicants. Transplants are done 60 miles away. We do post care after they are stable and released to us. We have occasional medical students. The hospital is a regional referral center, about 250 beds with a 22 bed ICU. Open heart surgery, intensivists, I.D., bariatric surgery center, pulmonary, rheumatology, cardiology, G.I., endocrine, oncology, etc. are available. Cartridge plasmaphoresis (but not centrifugal ) is provided. Renal biopsies done by radiology go to the Mayo Clinic. Mosaic Life Care, the only hospital we go to, won the Malcolm Baldridge award for excellence presented by Vice President Biden. Mosaic Life Care was named on of the 100 Top Hospitals by Truven Health Analytics. CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) awarded a five star rating to Mosaic.
