Job Description

SummaryThis position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program.

You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.

Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.

Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

QualificationsTo qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement.

Applicants pending completion of training or licensing may be considered tentatively but cannot be hired until all requirements are met.

Current VA-employed physicians who met initial appointment requirements are deemed to meet basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

U.S.

Citizenship:

Non-citizens may be appointed if qualified citizens cannot be recruited, per VA Policy.

Degree:

Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an approved medical school.

License:

Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S. or its territories.

Residency Training:

Completed residency approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification.

Approved residencies include ACGME, AOA, or other programs deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee.

Residents in approved programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee basis.

Language:

Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Physical Requirements:

Must pass pre-employment physical, including lifting, pushing, reaching, use of fingers, walking, standing, kneeling, and vision requirements.

Hearing aids are permitted. DutiesThe Cape Girardeau VA Clinic, located in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, offers comprehensive GI care including diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases, performing endoscopic procedures, and providing consultative services.

The position reports to the Associate Chief of Staff for Specialty Care and involves collaboration within the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT).The work schedule is Monday through Friday, four 10-hour shifts.
