Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Pediatric Gastroenterology Hospitalist to join our dynamic inpatient GI team. This is a clinical role focused on providing high-quality, family-centered care for hospitalized children with gastrointestinal conditions. The position emphasizes work-life balance, with flexible scheduling models to support personal and professional needs. The Pediatric Gastroenterology Section is a dynamic and collaborative team leading the region in preventive care, diagnosis, and treatment of pediatric digestive and liver disorders. Our team includes 7 faculty Pediatric Gastroenterologists, 6 Advanced Practice Providers, 2 Pediatric Psychologists, 1 Registered Dietitian, 1 Social Worker, 5 Pediatric GI Nurses, 5 Endo Nurses, and 1 Endo Tech. Specialized programs in IBD, Celiac disease, and Eosinophilic Esophagitis, Aerodigestive, CF, along with a Functional GI clinic staffed by licensed Psychologists, highlight our expertise. We also run a short gut and parental nutrition program through multidisciplinary clinic and surgical team. With locations in Winston-Salem, Clemmons, Kernersville and Greensboro, North Carolina, we are committed to comprehensive pediatric gastrointestinal care. We are also very excited to have received accreditation for a pediatric fellowship program to commence in 2025.

Scheduling Options:

Two primary schedule models are available: Option 1: 28 service weeks annually / 18 weekends on (with overnight coverage, not inhouse) Option 2: 32 service weeks annually / 14 weekends on (same as above) Alternate models between these options may be considered. The team is willing to provide additional weekend support to reduce the number of weekends required, in exchange for a slight increase in total service weeks.

Key scheduling details:

Coverage weeks should follow a predictable pattern (e.g., 1st, 3rd, and 5th or 2nd, 4th, and 5th weeks of the month), with schedules planned six months in advance . Extended vacations (>1 week) are allowed with sufficient notice and team coordination. When not scheduled for service, the hospitalist will have no clinical, procedural, teaching, or administrative responsibilities —no scopes, no clinic, no teaching, and no inbox coverage (range of weeks off between 20-24 weeks and weekends off 34-38 depending on what model one choses)

Clinical Duties:

Provide inpatient management for pediatric GI patients Conduct daily rounds with residents and fellows; teaching is shared among the team Respond to and manage Emergency Department (ER) consultations , ensuring timely evaluation and coordination of care. Provide inpatient consultations in timely manner

Procedural Responsibilities:

One designated procedure day per service week Additional inpatient procedures may be performed as needed during service weeks. Opportunities available for specialized procedures (e.g., motility studies, capsule endoscopy, non-sedated scopes ) with dedicated time carved out as appropriate

Teaching Responsibilities:

Participate in daily structured resident teaching during service weeks. Involve GI fellows in education when available, with shared responsibility across the faculty. No teaching obligations during non-service weekends or off days.

Additional Responsibilities:

Maintain 2-3 morning appointment slots per week for urgent GI patient access. Coordinate reliably with clinic and OR schedules to support the division’s commitment to access and efficiency.

Requirements:

Board-certified or board-eligible in Pediatric Gastroenterology Strong interest in inpatient pediatric GI care and multidisciplinary collaboration Commitment to a minimum three-year term in the hospitalist role to support team stability Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications:
