General Job Responsibilities:
Evaluate, diagnose and treat patients with blood disorders andvarious cancers, including administering chemotherapy,immunotherapy, targeted therapy and other treatmentmodalities. Provide comprehensive care to patients, including developingand implementing individualized treatment plans, managing sideeffects, and coordinating care with other specialists. Consult with other physicians and members of the healthcareteam on complex hematological and oncological cases. Provide patient education about diagnoses, treatment optionsand disease management, to support informed decision-making. Conduct regular follow-up visits to monitor patient progress,adjust treatments as needed and provide ongoing support. Maintain accurate and detailed patient records.
Skills:
Strong understanding of Hem/Onc principles, treatments andprocedures. Excellent clinical judgment and the ability to make criticaldecisions in high-pressure situations. Ability to effectively communicate complex information topatients, families and healthcare teams. Expertise in performing and interpreting diagnostic tests. Flexibility to adapt to new work environments and differentmedical teams.
Minimum Education Requirements:
Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree or Doctor of OsteopathicMedicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school. Residency training program in internal medicine accredited bythe Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) orthe American Osteopathic Association (AOA). Fellowship training in Hem/Onc.
License & Certifications:
Board certification in hematology and/or oncology by theAmerican Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or the AmericanOsteopathic Board of Internal Medicine (AOBIM). Active and unrestricted medical license in NorthCarolina.
Experience:
While specific requirements may vary, most locum Hem/Oncpositions prefer candidates with at least one year of experienceproviding care in a clinical setting.
