Videos Duties Specific Duties:

Clinically and administrively directs and supervises the pulmonologist. Technically develops and directs Critical Care and Pulmonary programs for the inpient veteran populion. Responsible for ensuring th high quality care is provided consistently in the outpient setting, on the inpient unit and within the ICU. Responsible for developing, monitoring, and enforcing clinical practice standards, policies and procedures for pulmonologist and RT’s. Attend Medical Center Committee meetings, which oversees the quality of care and reviews and approves Critical Care and Pulmonary section policies and procedures. Administers / participes in the Peer Review process including chart reviews. Strengthens and facilites communicion among pulmonary providers, and other Medicine Service supervisors. Responsible for working with the Administrive Officer in the development and implemention of call schedules and weekend coverage and ensuring adeque clinical provider coverage by developing work schedules / tours for pulmonary and RT staff. Provide leadership and oversight of provider coding practices for billing purposes. Establishes and manages a quality assurance/improvement plan for the Critical Care / Pulmonary / RT Section in coordinion with Quality management. Ensures approprie pient access to quality comprehensive inpient and outpient services and works directly with the emergency department leadership. Monitors all leaves of absences for professional staff members of the Critical Care and Pulmonary section including continuing educion, vacion, sick, and emergent annual leave. Reviews/resolves pient complaints/grievances and directs modificion of the system to diminish and elimine further complaints/grievances with assistance of the ACOS/Medicine Service. Acts as a liaison for Medicine Service involving medical mters with outside organizions including local hospitals, clinics, and other approprie organizions. Responsible for assisting the AO and ACOS with physician/mid-level and other clinical staff recruitment for the Medicine section. Helps ensure pient confidentiality and is an advoce for pient rights and responsibilities. Performs other health leadership, management, and clinical duties as required. Ensure th all pulmonologists are maintaining continuing medical educion adeque to keep knowledge and skills current and to maintain licensure and board certificions. Utilizes “bed huddle “to interact with Nursing and other services concerning inpient issues. Administrive duties include working directly with the Associe Chief of Staff for Medicine Service with the clinical and administrive supervision of and monitoring of professional standards for staff Pulmonologist. He/She Serves as clinical authority for professional, licensed, and certified pulmonology / respirory staff. The incumbent must demonstre skills in exercising a high degree of initiive, judgment, discretion, and decision-making to achieve organizional objectives. Basic Requirements:
United Stes Citizenship:

Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of educion in medicine or osteophic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a Ste, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United Stes, or in the District of Columbia.

Residency Training:

Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certificion. (

NOTE:

VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty stus.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accredition Council for Gradue Medical Educion (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteophic Associion (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United Stes), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with approprie professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an approprie range of pient care experiences. accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as “Physician Resident Providers” (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rher, they are to have a “scope of practice” th allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Physical Requirements:

Additional informion The Division of Pulmonary, and Critical Care the VA Medical Center, Salisbury NC is seeking a Physician with training, interest, and expertise in critical care medicine (internal medicine) to function as the Director of Critical Care the Salisbury VAMC and medical simulion. The Physician is to join a multidisciplinary team th includes pulmonary and critical care physicians, ICU Physician Assistants and Hospitalists in providing critical care services for both medical and surgical pients. The incumbent is expected to be involved in direct pient care and providing preceptorship for residents and medical students. The Physician functions independently providing leadership and medical oversight of all ICU operions with regular updes to the section chief of pulmonary and critical care medicine. Administrive duties include chairing the critical care committee, participing in the code blue committee, and providing daily oversight to ICU operions and physician assistant staff. When not providing ICU care, the incumbent will also perform other clinical duties including serving as an tending pulmonologist, performing inpient and outpient consultions, interpreting PFTs, teaching medical students, and supervising residents and fellows. A fully supported EBUS and electromagnetic navigion bronchoscopy program is available on site. A candide with Interest and proficiency in bronchoscopy is desirable and would join a robust team of advanced bronchoscopists as part of the thoracic oncology program. The incumbent will also lead the medical simulion program. Sleep medicine practice can be included in the position but is not required.
