Job Description
Overview The Department of Infectious Diseases is seeking a full-time General Infectious Diseases (ID) physician to join our dynamic team.
This position offers the opportunity to engage in a diverse clinical practice with a focus on bone and joint infections and complex infection management while contributing to clinical research and education within a collaborative academic environment.
Responsibilities Clinical Care:
⢠Provide inpatient and outpatient consultative services with an emphasis on bone and joint infections.⢠Serve as the attending physician for the ID Transitions of Care Service (ID-C), a predominantly Advanced Practice Provider (APP)-led initiative focused on coordinating safe and effective discharges for patients with complex infections.⢠Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including orthopedics, surgery, and other medical specialties, to ensure comprehensive care for patients with infectious diseases.
Research and Scholarship:
⢠Conduct and support clinical research in infectious diseases, with opportunities to develop and lead studies in areas of interest such as emerging infections, microbial ecology, or disease modeling.⢠Collaborate with existing departmental research initiatives, including those focused on vaccine development and infection prevention.
Education and Mentorship:
⢠Mentor and teach fellows, residents, and medical students in clinical and research settings.⢠Contribute to the development of new educational curricula, including topics in infectious disease ecology and biosecurity.
Qualifications MD or equivalent degree with Board Certification/Eligibility in Infectious Diseases.
Completion of a General ID Fellowship.
Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration Current M.D.or D.O.license from the State of North Carolina.
Board certification in primary care or related field from said residency.
Certification in
BCLS, ACLS
required if stress tests performed or as required by specialty.
Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and Department of Public Safety (DPS) registration, for prescription writing required.
Essential Functions Work with the primary healthcare team to provide patients with primary medical care services within the standard of care for Internal Medicine patients.
Order laboratory and radiology tests and refer patients to specialists when appropriate.
Analyze reports, test results, medical records and examinations to diagnose condition of patients and propose treatment options.
Prescribe pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens to treat identified and documented medical conditions.
Discuss potential side effects of medication/treatment with patients and ensure that all allergy information is up-to-date before prescribing medication/treatment.
Provide advice to patients for lifestyle and diet changes that may improve their health or help to treat the health issue they are experiencing.
Adhere to departmental policies, procedures and objectives, ongoing quality improvement objectives and safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all federal and state health information privacy laws.
Record complete, timely and legible medical records.
