Job Description

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine is seeking an open rank, fixed term, clinical faculty position to practice in our multi-specialty academic practice in Wilmington, NC.This team is part of an innovative partnership between UNC Health, UNC School of Medicine and Novant Health to provide specialty care to children from communities throughout southeastern and coastal NC.The Novant Health – New Hanover Regional Medical Center (NH- NHRMC) facility is a full spectrum community-based, multispecialty practice and a children’s hospital that includes a 45 bed Level III NICU, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and inpatient unit.

The faculty member will also be expected to develop and perform clinical activities in surrounding outreach locations in Southeastern NC.As a top-tier academic medical center, UNC Children’s upholds a four-tiered mission to “CARE,” aligning clinical care, advocacy, research, and education to deliver world-class family-centered care.

The UNC Division of Pediatric Endocrinology in Chapel Hill is nationally known as a center of excellence for care of children with diabetes or endocrinologic problems.

This includes multidisciplinary clinics in Turner Syndrome, gender wellness, and disorders of sexual development clinic.

Through the partnership between Novant Health and UNC Children’s, NH- NHRMC will become the tertiary care referral hospital for children in Coastal and Southeastern NC.Additionally, there will be ongoing expansion of educational opportunities with medical students, other health profession students, and residents.

Though not the primary focus of the center, research opportunities are also available.

This is a full-time clinical faculty position, with focus on outpatient care but also to include some inpatient consultation services.

The candidate must be board certified / eligible in Pediatric Endocrinology.

Expertise in management of high prevalence endocrinology conditions of children but also willingness and interest in managing rare and complex conditions with the support of the UNC Children’s Hospital in Chapel Hill is expected.

This is an excellent opportunity to join the current pediatric endocrinologists in a very busy practice with opportunity for future growth.

Additionally, the position is based in a terrific community setting with teaching and educational opportunities, while also being connected to a larger academic division in Chapel Hill.

Salary will be based on experience and aligned to community-based specialist rates.

Incentive compensation will support highly productive providers and meeting other targets aligned with broad system goals.

Wilmington, NC, is a charming, coastal city of ~125,000 people located in the southeastern corner of North Carolina between the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean.

It is a popular destination because of its moderate, four-season climate, historic preservation district, annual cultural events, and numerous championship golf courses.

The historic downtown offers a 1.75-mile River walk and the nearby Wrightsville, Carolina and Kure Beaches are all within half-hour drives from downtown Wilmington.

Minimum Education and Experience RequirementsThe candidate must be board certified / eligible in Pediatric Endocrinology.
