Yes County Albany Street Address NYS Office of Mental Health 75 New Scotland Avenue City Albany State NY Zip Code 12208 Duties Description The Office of Mental Health (OMH) is recruiting to fill a Psychiatrist 2, Grade 38, position in the Division of Forensic Services (DFS), Bureau of Institutional and Transitional Services. The Bureau administers the system of care for individuals found incompetent to stand trial or not responsible for criminal conduct due their mental illness. Qualified applicants should possess strong clinical skills, experience in risk assessment and forensic report writing, and excellent communication abilities. The incumbent of this position will serve as the clinical lead for the Bureau and will work closely with other members of the team to support OMH facility staff to fulfill the agency’s statutory responsibilities to the forensic mental health population. Pursuant to Criminal Procedure Law (CPL) Sections 330.20 and 730, the incumbent of this position will provide clinical training and guidance to Central Office and facility staff on matters of risk assessment, treatment standards and client readiness for release from hospital and/or CPL conditions. The Psychiatrist will interface with facility forensic coordinators in monitoring clinical and legal case needs, and act as an intermediary with the NYS Attorney General’s Office regarding legal case developments. Specific duties to be performed may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Provide clinical reviews of forensic status cases in the OMH system, related to requests for changes in status or to support clinical needs Contribute to the Bureau’s efforts to provide clinical training and support to OMH staff on matters of risk assessment, treatment standards and forensic-specific requirements.
Liaise with OMH Medical Informatics on revisions and enhancements to OMH’s electronic medical record.
Interface with facility staff on clinical cases, as needed.
Case conference with partner agencies regarding care needs for complex needs individualsParticipate in larger Bureau and Division system level projects including developing and/or updating resource manuals and collaborating on care initiatives.
Support the implementation of various clinical initiatives across the forensic system.
Serve as a forensic representative on OMH workgroups and/or committees.

License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and certification in psychiatry by the

Candidates must have permanent status as a Psychiatrist 2, G-38, and be eligible for lateral transfer; OR be eligible to transfer via Section 70.1 or Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law by having at least one year of permanent service in a qualifying title within two salary grades or one M-grade of this position.. For the duration of NY HELPS, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date, it is expected that employees hired under
