Job Description
Anesthesiology Physicians will provide onsite anesthesia services at the Syracuse VA Medical Center (VAMC). These physicians will serve as part of a multidisciplinary surgical care team, delivering comprehensive perioperative anesthetic care to veterans. Responsibilities include pre-operative assessment, intra-operative management, post-anesthesia monitoring, and supervision of CRNAs and residents.
Responsibilities:
Provide direct anesthetic care, including general and regional anesthesia, for a wide range of surgical procedures. Conduct thorough pre-operative assessments and develop individualized anesthetic care plans. Monitor patient status and respond to physiologic changes during surgery. Manage airway and ventilation, fluid therapy, and medication administration intraoperatively. Document anesthesia services, patient assessments, and outcomes in the VA’s electronic health record system (CPRS). Participate in post-anesthesia care and ensure continuity of patient safety and comfort. Provide clinical oversight and supervision to residents and CRNAs in accordance with VA and ACGME guidelines. Respond to emergency situations and provide anesthesia support during resuscitation or urgent procedures. Participate in quality improvement activities and adhere to VA medical staff policies and bylaws.
Qualifications:
Education:
Must have completed an ACGME-accredited residency in Anesthesiology.
License:
Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) –
Required Experience:
Minimum 3-5 years of relevant anesthesiology experience preferred.
Other Requirements:
Must be Board Certified or Board Eligible by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA).
