Join a team that s Changing What s Possible The Division ofCardiothoracic Surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina(MUSC) is seeking a board certified or board eligible AdultCardiothoracic surgeon to join their growing team in charmingGreenwood, SC. The chosen candidate will play a key role ineducating future leaders in cardiac surgery, as well as broadeningsurgical access throughout the state of South Carolina. Thisposition would be hired through MUSC, and the individual would workat Self Regional in Greenwood, SC.The Division of CardiothoracicSurgery is the only team in South Carolina with the expertise toperform complex procedures such as heart transplants, robotic valvesurgery, and aortic surgeries. Recognized by U.S. News & WorldReport as high performing in aortic valve and heart bypasssurgeries, the division also holds a Blue Distinction Center+designation for Adult Heart Transplant. As the 5th largest LVADcenter and 13th largest heart transplant center in the U.S., andunder the leadership of Dr. Marc R. Katz, the division made historyby performing South Carolina’s first robotically assisted,FDA-approved thoracic mitral valve surgery.

The HeartFailure Clinic at Self Regional has been recognized by the AmericanHeart Association s Get With the Guidelines based on the clinic squality and outcomes in stroke care and heart failure. Also, it snationally accredited Chest Pain Center ensures that the team ofemergency physicians, cardiologists, critical care nurses,paramedics and cardiac catheterization lab follow nationalguidelines to diagnose and quickly provide lifesaving treatment forpatients experiencing potential cardiac life-threatening events.

Weare seeking candidates with: MD or DO with board certification or eligibility in ThoracicSurgery Eligibility for a South Carolina Medical License Academic orientation, interest in teaching, and passion foroutreach Preference for applicants with a demonstrated ability to designand carry out clinical or basic science researchAbout ouropportunity: Appointment as an Assistant or Associate Professor ofSurgery Provide all aspects of general adult cardiac surgery including,but not limited to coronary artery bypass, aortic and mitral valverepair/replacement, aortic surgery. Split time between Greenwood, SC and our 4 affiliated cardiacsurgery programs around South Carolina including Florence,Anderson, and Columbia. A hybrid practice model with three physicians, combining officeand hospital-based care. Support team of two Physician Assistants, dedicated heart ORteam, onsite lab, and weekly Tumor Board meetings.
