Job Description

SummaryPosition is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program.

You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.

Program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.

Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

QualificationsTo qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement.

Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Current VA-employed physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship:

Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens, in accordance with VA Policy.

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved medical school.

Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.

Residency Training:

Completion of an approved residency program leading to eligibility for board certification.

Approved residencies include those accredited by ACGME, AOA, or other recognized programs deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee.

Residents enrolled in

ACGME/AOA

residencies are eligible for appointment as “Physician Resident Providers” (PRPs), who must be fully licensed physicians and can only be appointed on an intermittent or fee basis.

Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Physical requirements include light lifting, carrying, pulling, pushing, use of fingers, walking, standing, kneeling, bending, climbing, and visual and auditory capabilities as specified. DutiesProvide outpatient psychiatric services to Veterans, including diagnostic evaluations, medication management, and brief individual therapy.

Work as part of a multidisciplinary team including nurses, social workers, and psychologists.

Refer patients for psychological and neuropsychological testing as needed.

Participate in specialty programs such as Trauma Recovery, DBT, Substance Abuse, TBI, and Chronic Pain.

Supervise mid-level providers, including psychiatric nurses and physician assistants.

Exercise professional judgment in treatment planning and may develop new techniques and programs.

Treat diagnoses such as PTSD, Anxiety Disorders, ADHD, Mood Disorders, Schizophrenia, Substance Use Disorders, Dementia, and TBI sequelae.

Coordinate with specialty clinics and external resources for comprehensive care.

Participate in quality improvement activities and peer review processes.

Work schedule is typically Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with flexible options, and rotational call duties.#J-18808-Ljbffr
