The Department of Thoracic Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is accepting applications from all ranks for a full-time academic Thoracic surgeon. The position will require a skillset in Lung Recoveries and Transplantation, as well as a preference for fellowship training. The Thoracic Surgery team at VUMC is a well-established thoracic team, consisting of 5 exceptionally talented faculty members, with a foundation in excellent patient care, innovation, and a team approach.
The Vanderbilt lung transplant program is one of the largest in the country, having performed nearly 100 transplants in 2024 with some of the best outcomes nationwide. There is a robust clinical and academic infrastructure to support our commitment to patient care, education, and research. Furthermore, we are committed to innovation and embrace new technology to advance the field. A commitment to patient care and resident training is essential. Additionally, there is an opportunity to participate in our thoracic transplantation laboratory which is an international leader in organ failure, recovery, regeneration, and replacement with established large animal and human organ models and an incredible interdisciplinary team of surgeons, scientists, and engineers.
Job responsibilities include participation in clinical and academic activities as they relate to the Department of Thoracic Surgery. The candidate will work closely with the Department Chair, other members of the Thoracic Surgery team, department administration, and other disciplines.
Eligible candidates must be board certified in Thoracic surgery, able to obtain and maintain a Tennessee Medical License and have completed an ACGME approved cardiothoracic fellowship. Applicants should have a strong commitment to patient care and education and an interest in clinical research with a focus on health services research.
