This position supports the podiatry and chiropractic segment of our medical professional liability line of business and is hybrid. The primary responsibility of an Associate Underwriter “AU” is to assess risk and protect the company from financial loss by working closely with the underwriting, policy services, claims, sales and marketing, and regulatory departments. The AU interacts with internal and external customers and plays a key role in ensuring that production and profitability goals are met and exceeded. The expectation is that the AU perform their duties in accordance with established customer service and do so within the framework of the rules, rates, and coverage forms filed and approved by law in the state of responsibility. What you’ll do: 45% Assist underwriter in reviewing and issuing direct and agent written new business and renewal applications and make recommendations regarding classification and pricing based on insurability and profitability. This includes comparing year over year risk profile and loss history information and take necessary steps to ensure that each risk is appropriately classified and priced. 25% Generate and mail out renewal offers monthly. 15% Analyze and appropriately process policy endorsement requests from insureds and agents. 5% Attend team, department, and cross functional team meetings. Participate in discussions or education sessions with other teams or departments as needed. Review underwriting reports and reviews as requested by management. 5% Perform special projects as directed by management. 5% Work in partnership with Underwriting and Policy Services leadership and staff to foster efficient and accurate service to our agents and insureds. What we’re looking for: Bachelor’s degree in business, insurance, or related field preferred. A high school diploma or GED and a minimum of three years of professional experience is required for candidates without a bachelor’s degree. Minimum one year experience within an insurance environment required. Prior professional liability underwriting experience desired. Understanding of insurance terminology, insurance, and underwriting principles preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Self-motivated and able to accomplish multiple tasks in a timely manner. Accomplished written and verbal communication skills.
