Job Description HC Payroll Title:
Podiatrist Functional/Office Title:

Podiatrist Summary of position: Under the general supervision of an Assistant Chief of Medicine and the Deputy Chief of Medicine, CHS Podiatrists focus on providing podiatric care within the New York City correctional system. They receive referrals for a wide range of services, from general podiatry to subacute podiatric concerns, and referrals to subspecialists in the community.

Responsibilities include:

(Detailed Task) Conducting examinations of the feet and ankles
Ordering tests, such as X-rays, to diagnose conditions
Diagnosing foot and ankle pathologies and developing treatment plans, which are then discussed with patients
Performing procedures to treat conditions affecting the feet and ankles
Explaining the risks and benefits of treatments to patients
Updating patient medical records
Adhering to regulations regarding standards of care, infection control, and patient safety and privacy
Following CHS Time and Leave policies
Being willing to work at all CHS facilities, both on and off Rikers Island.

Department Preferences:

(Preferred Skills) Knowledge and experience in patient-centered comprehensive care
Interest or formal training in correctional health, health inequities, or other relevant knowledge or experience caring for vulnerable populations. Experience analyzing data from electronic systems.
Experience working with electronic health records to adapt clinical tools and integrate user feedback.
Training in trauma-informed care and/or interdisciplinary care experience.
Collaborative approach to care provision, and drive to advocate and provide care for people impacted by incarceration. Knowledge of the latest standards of care and best practices for podiatric medicine
Oral communication skills to communicate effectively with patients and other members of the care team
Attentiveness to detail to maintain accurate records and reduce the risk of medical errors
Strong interpersonal skills to reduce anxiety and fear in patients of all ages
Familiarity with patient records management software

Qualification Requirements:

Doctoral Degree in Podiatric Medicine Post Graduate Training in Primary Care
Board Certification
New York State License Minimum of 5 Years of Experience
A podiatrist holds a Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) and has completed a three-year graduate training program accredited by the Council of Podiatric Medical Education (CPME).
