Job Details The Psychologist plans and implements all professionalpsychological service programs of a non-medical nature in thefacility. Coordinates and directs the activities of personnel engaged inproviding psychological services to inmates/residents. Job Requirements The successful candidate should be able to perform ALL of thefollowing functions at a pace and level of performance consistentwith the actual job performance requirements. Conducts psychological screenings and assessments based onreview of available records, and clinical interviews withinmates. As part of a mental health team, confers with other clinicalstaff, e.g., psychiatrists, mental health service providers,physicians, nurses, social workers, in order to gather and provideinformation concerning patient psychological problems, to ensuretreatment activities are well integrated, and patient carefollow-through occurs. Provides treatment to inmates by developing, implementing, andmodifying individual treatment plans based on evaluation of needsand level of functioning. Makes regular rounds in segregation or other confined housingareas to assess inmate adjustment and mental health treatmentneeds. Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of psychological counselingtheory and techniques by way of treatments and activities used forindividuals in caseload. Provides appropriate mental health assessments, counseling, andconfrontation avoidance interventions to address the needs ofinmates in crisis. Consults with psychiatry, mental health, nursing, medical,educational, chaplain, security staff, and others, as applicable togather information and understanding into the reasons for theescalation of problems behaviors and changes in mental healthcondition of inmates.
