Job Summary:

The PRN StaffRadiation Therapist in the Radiation Oncology Department appliesionizing radiation to a diverse population of patients inaccordance with the prescription and instructions of the RadiationOncologist. They must be capable of operating radiation-producingequipment utilizing radiation safety measures and be able toperform a series of complex and precise technical procedures.

CoreResponsibilities and Essential Functions:

Participates in QualityControl monitoring.

• a.

Delivers consistent precise therapy to adesignated treatment area.

• b.

Demonstrates skill in patientassessment, performing procedures and giving specialty care topatients, considering the age of the patient and appropriatelyadopts care for age (adolescent, adult and geriatrics).

• c.

Documents appropriately in Electronic Medical Record (EMR)

• d.

Demonstrates a willingness to perform additional tasks and givesassistance when necessary to others.

• e.

Recognizes own limitationsand/or needs and seeks assistance as needed.

• f.

Reports adversereactions to physician immediately and follows policy and procedure(P/P) for documentation.

• g.

Educates patient/family on expectedside effects, use of blocks, wedges and other treatment aids.

• h.

Follows P/P to ensure precise treatment per physicianprescription.

• i.

Follows P/P to ensure precise treatment perphysicists instruction in chart or computer. Follows properprocedure to ensure safety to self and patient.

• a.

Assessesmobility of patients and manages accordingly, looks at EMR for fallprecautions.

• b.

Wears radiation safety badges at all times.

• c.

Practices universal precautions.

• d.

Participates in dailywarm-up procedures to ensure output is within tolerances

• e.

Advises manager of any discrepancies and any material item thatneeds replaced or fixed as soon as possible Understands andcompletes correctly all patient set-ups

• a.

Simulates new patientsand/or patients with new treatment fields with no errors andaccording to physicians written order in EMR.

• b.

Schedulespatients appropriately and always lets patient know of any changesprior to changes being made. Miscellaneous items

Participates in on-call rotation

Isactive as a student clinical instructor with both RTT and RTRstudents. Will evaluate and give feedback to both students andClinical Advisor. Participates in Quality Control monitoring.

• Assesses mobilityof patients and manages accordingly, looks at EMR for fallprecautions.
• Wears radiation safety badges at all times.
• Practices universal precautions.
• Participates in daily warm-upprocedures to ensure output is within tolerances
• Advises managerof any discrepancies and any material item that needs replaced orfixed as soon as possible Understands and completes correctly allpatient set-ups
• Simulates new patients and/or patients with newtreatment fields with no errors and according to physicians writtenorder in EMR.
• Schedules patients appropriately and always letspatient know of any changes prior to changes being made.

Required MinimumEducation:

Associate’s Degree Must be a graduate from an accreditedRadiation therapy program Required Must be a graduate from anaccredited Radiologic Technology School (JRCERT) Required RequiredMinimum License(s) and Certification(s): All certifications arerequired upon hire unless otherwise stated.

• ARRT RadiationTherapy
• Basic Life Support or BLS
• Instructor AdditionalLicense(s) and Certification(s):
