The Radiation Therapist delivers high doses of ionizingradiation to specific areas of the patient?s body for the treatmentof disease, specifically cancer. This role follows specifictreatment plans created by radiation oncologists, which outline thetype, dose, and duration of radiation therapy required for eachpatient. This role uses advanced technology such as linearaccelerators and other radiation delivery devices to preciselydirect radiation beams to the targeted area. Follows treatment plans and parameters to deliver precise radiationdoses to targeted areas, minimizing damage to surrounding healthytissues. Positions and immobilizes patients on treatment tables, ensuringthey are in the correct posture for effective radiationtargeting. Conducts pre-treatment verifications, which involve ensuring thatequipment settings align with the prescribed treatment plan. Conducts procedure simulations and provides patients withexplanations about treatment procedures, potential side effects,and what to expect during their sessions. Offers patients emotional support, addressing concerns andpromoting a comfortable treatment experience. Implements measuresto protect patients, staff, and themselves from unnecessaryradiation exposure during treatment sessions. Documents treatment details, equipment settings, patient reactions,and any observations. Monitors patients for any adverse reactions and communicateeffectively with the healthcare team about any changes orconcerns. Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
Required:
Graduate of an accredited Radiation TherapyTechnology program
EXPERIENCE
Preferred:
2 years of experience as a registeredradiation therapist
