RequiredQualifications:
Successful completion of an accredited Radiation Therapyprogram One year of recent experience as a Radiation Therapistrequired Current BLS Certification (AHA/ARC)
Preferred Qualifications:
Current ARRT Certification Other certifications and licenses may be required for thisposition
Summary:
A Radiation Therapist administers targetedradiation therapy to treat cancerous tumors as prescribed byradiologists and oncologists. They position patients withprecision, operate advanced radiation therapy equipment, and ensurepatient safety by adhering to radiation protection protocols.
Radiation Therapists play a key role in delivering compassionatecare, monitoring patient responses, and collaborating with thehealthcare team to achieve optimal outcomes.
Essential WorkFunctions:
Position patients for treatment with accuracy, according toprescription to ensure effective treatment and minimize exposure tohealthy tissue Administer prescribed doses of radiation to targeted bodyparts, using radiation therapy equipment according to establishedpractices stan and safety protocols Perform regular equipment checks of radiation therapy equipmentto ensure proper functionality and troubleshoot issues asneeded Review prescription, diagnosis, patient chart, andidentification to confirm accuracy and compliance with thetreatment plan Follow radiation protection principles to ensure safety forpatients, self, and others Maintain records, reports, or files required, including suchinformation as radiation dosages, equipment settings, or patient’sreaction Conduct treatment sessions independently, in accordance withlong-term treatment plan and under the general direction of thepatient’s physician Enter data into computer and set controls to operate or adjustequipment or regulate dosage Observe and reassure patients during treatment and reportunusual reactions to physician Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of RadiationTherapist practice
Required Essential Skills:
Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonalcommunication skills The ability to read, write, & communicate in the Englishlanguage is required Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbalinstructions, and proficiency in PC skills Physical Abilities
- Remain in a stationary position, moveabout, move equipment (50-100lbs), pushing, pulling, bending Interpersonal Skills
- To work effectively with a variety ofpersonnel (professional and ancillary) to present a positiveattitude and professionalism Technical/Motor Skills
- Ability to grasp, fine manipulation,pushing/pulling and able to move about when assisting withprocedures and/or using department equipment. Mental Requirements
- Must be able to cope with frequentcontact with the general public, customers, and meeting deadlinesunder pressure.
