POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of a Radiologistthe CT Technologist performs exams at a technical level that doesnot require direct supervision over technical detail. This positionrequires advancedmedical imaging knowledge, including skill incross-sectional anatomy. A complete knowledge of all types ofdiagnostic CT exams and interventional procedures is required. Usesindependent judgment, ingenuity and acquired knowledge to obtainquality diagnostic images. Assists with interventional procedures.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION
A high school diploma or GED equivalent;graduate of an ARRT approved Radiological Technology School programis required. Registration and certification with the AmericanRegistry of Radiological Technologists and licensure with the Stateof Connecticut are required. Must remain current with ARRTcontinuing education requirements and maintain an active ARRTcertificate. Advanced certification from the ARRT in ComputerizedTomography is expected from the incumbent within one year of hire.
Must have certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support upon hire andmaintain clinical competency during employment with ECHN in thisrole.
COMPETENCIES
Must have a full knowledge of CT exams andinterventional procedures. Technologist must be capable ofperforming exams independently. Must have complete workingknowledge in the principals of physics, anatomy, medicalterminology, sterile technique and radiation protection as itrelates to CT practice. Must be able to speak, read and writeeffectively using the English language. This position requires theincumbent work cooperatively with department staff by sharing intaking rotational call and holiday hours.

Job-Specific Competency 1. Assures that patients clinicaldata coincides with and matches the type of exam that is beingordered. Follows up with Doctors office when exam ordered is inquestion and does not seem reasonable given the patients clinicalrecord. 2. Assist Radiologist in interventional procedures.
Coordinates patients medical needs with the Radiology Nurse.
Assures that room is properly equipped for procedure and cleanedappropriately post procedure. 3. Assures female patients of childbearing ages are screened for possibility of pregnancy. 4.Demonstrates skill in IV insertion. 5. Documents exams intoradiology system to ensure proper billing. 6. Independently runsones own schedule and properly documents patient flow whileremaining sensitive to patients care and other co-workers needs anddesires. Remains flexible in patient flow in order to accommodatedaily emergency calls and requests for inpatient procedures.
Assists in obtaining transportation for patients when proceduresare scheduled by internal Hospitalists, Physicians, etc. 7.Demonstrates competency in performing all types of CT scans 8.Processes CT exams utilizing the teleradiology system during offshift hours. Able to trouble shoot problems and contact correcthelp lines if necessary. 9. Demonstrates the ability to choosecorrect protocols for patients based on age and size. 10.Accurately completes computer (Meditech) patient proceduredocumentation. Assures the accuracy of documentation understandingthat all items will be charged to the patients hospital bill.
Submits correctly documented and labeled exam to the Radiologistand is available for review and discussion. Reviews each exam fortechnical accuracy. 11. Transports patients when needed. 12.Performs quality assurance in accordance with the American Collegeof Radiology guidelines for CT. 13. Reviews post instructions topatient (example: hydration, when physician will receive results)14. Demonstrates ability to trouble shoot any electronic equipmentsuch as scanner, workstations, and printers. 15. Independentlyresponds on a call basis to perform procedures. Drives to affiliateand/or contracted location to provide services as may be required.16. Works cooperatively and exhibits Core Values at all time inorder to accomplish all tasks as a member of the Medical ImagingTeam.
