POSITION SUMMARY
Interventional Radiology Technologist isresponsible for providing patient services using invasivecardiovascular technology under the direction of a physician,leading to the diagnosis and treatment of congenital and acquiredorgan and vascular disease. Responsible for performing routine tocomplex diagnostic and therapeutic technical procedures at a levelthat does not require constant supervision of technical detail.
Interventional Radiology Technologist assists in the performance ofa variety of procedures requiring independent judgment, goodknowledge of anatomy, and high technical knowledge of equipment.
The technologist has a constant awareness of infection controlstandards, the importance of sterility and an acute awareness ofpatient care protocols
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION
Must be a highschool graduate. American Registry of Radiologic Technologists(ARRT) National Board certified. Vascular-Interventional (VI)Radiography Certification by the ARRT preferred. Maintain a validState of Connecticut License to practice Radiographic technicalprocedures. On an on-going basis the incumbent must obtain themandatory number of continued educational units (CEUs) needed tomaintain the currency of state licensure. The employee must takeand pass ECHNs mandatory annual education program and meet the ECHNage-specific knowledge/skill requirement, annually. Must be BLSCertified. Employee must have access to reliable transportation totravel between multiple work sites; and travel is required in orderto perform essential duties.
COMPETENCIES
Requires advanced mathskills in physics in order to understand and set the level ofradiation exposure to the patient and themselves for the process.
Must have a complete working knowledge in the principals ofphysics, anatomy, medical terminology, sterile technique andradiation protection as it relates to Radiology practice. Theability to speak, read and write using the English language isrequired in order to read procedures that are ordered, communicatewith patients. . The incumbent must be able to effectivelycommunicate with individuals from all age groups and demonstratepatience and empathy with patients. Communicates appropriatelyusing good interpersonal skills. Positive professional demeanor isprojected through verbal and non-verbal communications. Bilingualcapabilities in English and Spanish are desirable, but notrequired. Successfully complete ECHNs High Reliability OrganizationEducation.

Performs all routineradiographic procedures according to department standards,protocols and guidelines required by the American Registry ofRadiologic Technologists and the State of Connecticut. Providesproper clinical patient care while performing diagnosticprocedures. Critiques and assesses the overall quality of imagestaken. Uses a combination of skill, experience and judgment inimproving the quality of images (i.e.; adjusts the contrast,manipulates the size of the image, annotates, etc.). Providescareful critique and assessment of image quality. Exhibits andmaintains a familiarity with the capabilities of radiographicequipment. Sterile technique policies and practices are followedand monitored. Maintains adequate stock levels and personalprotection equipment in the Angio Suite. Actively participates inthe maintenance of stock and inventory cycle counts. Maintainsprofessionalism in line with ECHNs Core Values during stressfulsituations with minimal disruption of professional capabilities.
Exhibits accuracy in computer patient and diagnostic proceduredocumentation. Exhibits a willingness to accomplish a task andworks well as a team member. Keeps abreast of the advances of thismodality. Efficiently and effectively provides procedural supportfor a variety of patient procedures Patient is positioned properlyfor procedure Total Fluoro times are reported to the physicians atstandard intervals. Wears radiation badge every day of work. Guidesnon RT personnel in safe radiation practices. Responsible forachieving quality assurance measures and requirements. Qualityimages are consistently sent to PACS. Universal Protocol checklistsare completed properly. Assist in training of newly hired staff.
