General Summary of Duties:

As a Mammography Technologist, you will be responsible for performing a variety of technical activities associated with the operation of mammographic radiographic equipment, performing screening and diagnostic mammography procedures, and ensuring the highest quality imaging for patients.

Essential Functions:

Greet patients and provide clear instructions on mammography procedures. Perform diagnostic mammography using advanced radiographic equipment, following strict safety standards and radiation protection protocols. Position patients properly for exams and calculate exposure factors. Assist physicians in the performance of mammographic procedures. Conduct quality control functions for mammography and ensure high-quality diagnostic radiographs. Evaluate images and obtain additional images if necessary. Prepare medical supplies using aseptic techniques and explain procedures to patients. Mentor new Mammography Technologists and provide orientation. Assist in compiling statistical data and maintaining equipment records. Demonstrate proficiency in performing all breast imaging procedures, including interventional procedures. Perform other duties as needed to ensure smooth operations.

Education & Experience:

Graduate of an AMA-approved school of radiologic technology. Minimum of two years of experience in radiologic imaging modalities, with at least one year of mammography experience preferred. Experience with tomosynthesis is a plus.

Certifications & Licensure:

Licensed in the State of Florida and ARRT certification in Radiography (RT(R)). ARRT certification in Mammography (M) preferred, or to be obtained within the first 6 months of employment. BLS Certification.

Knowledge & Skills:

Proficiency in mammography procedures and protocols. Strong understanding of anatomy and physiology. Experience with radiologic equipment, quality assurance, and troubleshooting. Knowledge of radiation safety and protection for staff, patients, and visitors. Ability to perform interventional breast procedures. Proficient in using computer systems for image processing and submitting images for interpretation. Knowledge of emergency response procedures, including AED, crash cart, and oxygen tank usage.

Abilities:

Ability to work collaboratively within the department and with patients and their families. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to explain procedures to patients in a clear, patient, and professional manner.

Physical/Mental Demands:

Requires a full range of motion and the ability to lift/carry/move items up to 50 pounds. Requires the ability to position patients and maintain focus during imaging procedures. Requires corrected 20/20 vision.

Environmental/Working Conditions:

Medical office, mammography exam, and treatment rooms. Exposure to radiation, needles, and communicable diseases. Work location may vary between sites.
