Summary Position Highlights:

Under the broad direction of the MRI Supervisor, Radiologist and the Manager of Diagnostic Imaging, the Lead MRI Technologist shall oversee all technical aspects of the department and perform procedures on selected anatomy as requested by the clinician based on age appropriateness. The Lead Technologist is expected to perform a variety of procedures with the knowledge and ability to apply the proper scan protocols needed to visualize the anatomy in question following safe MRI practices. Acts as a Lead Technologist to the rest of the technologists in the department and have the ability to troubleshoot technical difficulties as well as possess critical decision-making abilities for safe use of the MRI scanners due to any irregularities or malfunctions. Must be able to work scheduled, weekends and “ON CALL” hours at multiple locations, if applicable. Must be able to rotate through multiple locations, when needed

Responsibilities:

Perform exams in all aspects of MRI. Maintain knowledge of the use of the internet web site for the attainment of a GFR for all contrast patients.
Performs all procedures and follows standard protocols or positioning guidelines.
Demonstrates knowledge of cross sectional anatomy and an understanding of pathology to include knowledge of disease anomalities and abnormalities encountered in MRI Access veins for contrast Follow the hospital policy when starting IV’s and documentation of such injections Oversees all MRI safety and follows proper procedure concerning any equipment malfunction The MRI technologist will control the entry to the MRI area to include the control room, computer room and all other adjacent areas.
Performs daily safety room check.
Maintain awareness of all MRI related policies in reference to magnet status, quenching, patient safety, MRI cleaning policy, code blue, magnet safety, hazard signs, patient screening and preparation, and other MRI related restrictions and safety precautions Directs and motivates others. Is responsible for the coordination, training, competencies and orientation of weekend and evening staff under the supervision of the MRI Supervisor. Demonstrates knowledge of all Radiology principles and imaging techniques as they apply to the daily operation of the MRI department.
Leads and acts as a resource and subject matter expert for all technologist and other support staff.

Credentials and Qualifications:

Associate’s degree

  • Allied Health
    ARRT certification in MRI BLS (Basic Life Support) Required
    Minimum of 3 years in an MRI Technologist role with at least 6 months at Moffitt Cancer Center Experience in working with hospital information systems in a radiology and /or clinic
    Interpersonal skills to provide effective leadership to staff and maintain a collaborative working relationship in a team focused model.

Thorough understanding of healthcare environment and/ or customer service needs.
