Mammography Technician 3.8 3.8 out of 5 stars Boynton Beach, FL 33435 Mammography Technologist Job Description Job Summary The Mammography Technologist performs screening and diagnostic mammograms to aid in the early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer and other breast-related conditions. This role requires proficiency in operating mammography equipment, ensuring high-quality imaging while prioritizing patient comfort and safety. The technologist works closely with radiologists, physicians, and healthcare providers to ensure accurate and timely imaging results.
Duties Clinical Duties:
Perform high-quality screening and diagnostic mammograms following ACR, FDA, and MQSA guidelines.
Patient Care:
Provide clear instructions and reassurance to patients throughout the imaging process. Assess patients for any contraindications (e.g., pregnancy, implants, recent surgeries) before imaging. Maintain patient confidentiality and professionalism in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Ensure a compassionate and supportive environment, particularly for patients undergoing diagnostic mammograms or biopsies due to suspicious findings.
Quality Assurance & Compliance:
Follow infection control, radiation safety, and quality assurance protocols to maintain compliance with regulatory standards. Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in the
PACS/RIS
system. Participate in quality improvement programs, including regular audits and continuing education. Stay updated with advancements in breast imaging technology, AI-assisted diagnostics, and new screening techniques Operate and maintain mammography equipment, ensuring proper calibration and quality control. Ensure proper patient positioning to obtain optimal breast images for accurate diagnosis Recognize and report any abnormalities or technical issues that may compromise image quality
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Experience:
Candidates should possess the following skills and experience: Proficiency in diagnostic radiology, including mammography, X-ray, and sonography. Minimum 1-2 years of experience in mammography preferred, with experience in diagnostic breast imaging a plus.
Soft Skills:
Strong communication, attention to detail, and ability to comfort anxious patients. Experience in stereotactic and ultrasound-guided breast biopsies. Knowledge of MQSA and ACR accreditation requirements. Prior work experience in a breast center or hospital-based mammography department Strong knowledge of medical terminology related to imaging procedures. Familiarity with anatomy knowledge relevant to breast imaging. Experience in emergency medicine or emergency room settings is a plus. Understanding of nuclear medicine principles may be beneficial.
Education:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology or a related field.
Certification:
ARRT (R) certification required; ARRT (M) Mammography Certification required or must obtain within a specified timeframe. State licensure (if applicable). BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
