Travel A Mammography Technician (Mammo Tech) is a specializedradiologic technologist who operates mammography equipment toperform diagnostic imaging procedures for detecting breastabnormalities. These images, known as mammograms, help to screenfor breast cancer and other breast-related conditions. MammographyTechnicians are trained to perform the procedure, ensure patientcomfort, maintain a high standard of image quality, and assist inpatient care throughout the process. /n/n
Key Responsibilities:
/n /n1. /n
Performing Mammograms:
/n /n
- Position and prepare patientsfor mammography exams, ensuring they are comfortable and properlypositioned. /n
- Operate mammography equipment to capture clear,accurate images of the breast tissue. /n
- Ensure propercompression of the breast during imaging to obtain the bestpossible images while minimizing discomfort for the patient. /n
- Assist patients with undressing and putting on a gown, as well aspositioning the breast for imaging. /n
- Perform digital mammogramsand, if necessary, additional views to obtain complete images ofthe breast.

Patient Care and Comfort:
/n /n
- Greetpatients and explain the procedure, answering any questions toalleviate anxiety. /n
- Educate patients on the importance ofmammograms, helping them understand the process and ensuring theyknow what to expect. /n
- Reassure patients during the exam,maintaining a calm and empathetic demeanor. /n
- Monitor patientsfor discomfort or any issues during the procedure and adjustaccordingly.

Quality Control and Image Evaluation:
/n /n
- Review mammograms for clarity and completeness, ensuringthe images meet diagnostic standards. /n
- Ensure that images arefree from artifacts or distortions that could hinder diagnosis. /n
- Work closely with radiologists to ensure that high-quality imagesare produced and evaluate whether additional views or retakes arenecessary. /n
- Assist in conducting breast ultrasound orstereotactic biopsy procedures if needed to further investigateabnormalities found in mammograms.

EquipmentMaintenance and Safety:
/n /n
- Ensure proper operation ofmammography equipment, troubleshooting any technical issues asneeded. /n
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of theequipment, following safety protocols and manufacturer guidelines./n
- Follow safety standards for radiation protection to minimizepatient and staff exposure. /n
- Ensure the machine is calibratedand functioning correctly to provide optimal images.

Record Keeping and Documentation:

- Maintain patient records,including medical history, previous mammogram results, and detailsof the current exam. /n
- Document relevant patient information,such as imaging results, positioning, and any special instructionsor requests from the physician. /n
- Ensure all procedures, patientinformation, and images are properly logged into the hospital’sElectronic Health Records (EHR) system.

Medical Team:
/n /n
- Communicate effectivelywith radiologists and physicians regarding images that may requirefurther attention or additional imaging. /n
- Assist in explainingtest results to patients, helping them understand what comes nextin the process if further evaluation or follow-up is needed. /n
- Work closely with the healthcare team to ensure continuity of carefor the patient, especially if abnormal results are found.

Safety and Regulatory Standards:
/n /n
- Ensurecompliance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act(HIPAA) regulations regarding patient privacy and confidentiality./n
- Follow all radiation safety protocols to protect both patientsand staff from unnecessary exposure. /n
- Adhere to AmericanCollege of Radiology (ACR) and FDA guidelines for mammographyprocedures and safety.

Patient Education:

- Provide patients with post-exam care instructions and answer anyquestions regarding the results, follow-up, or potential nextsteps. /n
- Educate patients on the importance of regularmammograms and breast health, including self-examination andlifestyle factors that affect breast health.
