Videos Duties Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist provides support and services in Imaging/Diagnostic Radiology to both inpients and outpients the Alexandria VA Health Care System (AVAHCS), under the direction of a Physician. Operes Radiology equipment, both mobile and fixed, and assists the Radiologist and other providers in fluoroscopic procedures as part of the diagnostic plan for pients. Duties include, but not limited to: Performs a wide variety of general diagnostic radiographic examinions utilizing multiple types of radiographic equipment. Operes digital radiography (DR), computed radiography (CR), and conventional radiography equipment with accuracy in producing optimal imaging examinions. Calibres and adjusts technical factors to optimize image quality. Responsible for the diagnostic quality of images produced. Applies knowledge of anomy and physiology to imaging; determines and applies proper positioning for the anomic region of interest and informion desired, according to established guidelines. Performs invasive procedures utilizing surgical sterile technique in accordance with hospital policies and applies approprie PPE when working directly with a sterile field. Prepares and administers contrast merials under the direction of the Radiologist for the purpose of performing exams requiring injectable solutions, such as cystograms, fistula grams, and arthrography, and for the purpose of performing oral and rectal exams of the GI tract. These procedures require the use of needles, syringes, iodined contrast merial, barium, enema bags, and drinking cups. Provides pient educion about procedures, gives directions, and answers questions, if any. Performs screening process for the safe applicion of contrast administrion, obtaining informed consent as criteria mande. Obtains applicable laborory values prior to contrast administrion. Provides training to student radiographers and residents from affilied programs and facilites the tainment of established program objectives. Responsible for cleanliness and stocking adeque levels of supplies in assigned areas. Provides support and assistance in all areas of the service with technical, administrive, and other tasks, based on the needs of the Service. He/she actively seeks out work when assigned tasks are finished. Complies with all policies regarding infection control practices pertaining to pre-cleaning and cleaning processing of RMEs.
