Job Description

Job Summary:

Supervises technical MRI staff and ancillary personnel, and coordinate all patient activities within responsible modality. Assign work schedules for staff technologists and ancillary personnel. Assure that all patient examinations are performed in accordance with established protocols and demonstrate knowledge of digital environment. Assures the correct patient is being imaged in accordance to hospital protocol of checking at least two patient identifiers prior to completing examination. Reviews patient documents for completeness. Reviews patient images for technical quality prior to archiving to PACS and submission to the radiologists for interpretation. Ensure that all examinations have been charged correctly. Perform QA/QC on equipment as needed. Works with department director to supervise all ACR and/or any governing agency standards required for assigned modality. Arrange for corrective and preventive maintenance on equipment as required. Ensure that quality assurance procedures for equipment are performed and documented. Start IV’s and/or administer contrast media. Ensures that area specific code carts are checked and tested on a daily basis. Provide resource assistance for personnel within the area. Perform patient examinations when required. Provide student technologists with the basic procedural concepts within responsible modality. Function as a liaison between the physicians and technologists. Shares call responsibility for emergency examinations, as needed. Demonstrates appropriate computer skills. Also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed. Demonstrates knowledge and skill to appropriately communicate and interact with patients, families, visitors, and vendors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs. Knowledgeable of Radiation Safety ALARA principles and practice. Reports to the Director Radiology Imaging Oncology Service Line. Performance Expectations Implements/communicates departmental policies and procedures as instructed by department director. Enforces hospital and intradepartmental policies and procedures holding staff accountable when appropriate to ensure a high standard of care. Ensures that hospital and departmental deadlines are met for Health stream and other departmental requirements. Works collaboratively with colleagues to ensure patients’ procedures are completed while in the department, reducing unnecessary redundant visits to the department due to lack of communication. Enforces ALARA and Radiation Safety practices safe guarding unnecessary radiation exposure to patients, physicians, and staff. Holds staff accountable when radiation safety is compromised due to unacceptable image quality, and lack of appropriate collimation and shielding. Initiates service calls for timely repair when necessary. Ensures that all imaging equipment is operating according to manufacturer’s specifications. Works collaboratively with department director to maintain productivity and budget requirements. Flexes staff when work load permits. Oversees compliance to all DNV requirements. Will receive stroke education annually. Ensures weekly equipment cleaning and documentation in equipment log for area of responsibility.

Qualifications:

Education/Skills Graduate from an approved AMA school of Radiologic Technology required.

Work Experience:

Three years or more years of MRI experience preferred. Previous supervisory experience preferred. Certification/Licensure-DUE

American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, ARRT R.T. (R) Radiography Certified MRI Technologist Additional Certification/Licensure – Obtained based on required timeframe below Basic Life Support (Within 30 Days of Employment Required)
