PRN Radiology Technologist at Novant Health summary: The PRN Radiology Technologist provides real-time imaging support in the operating room using portable X-ray and fluoroscopy equipment to assist surgeons during procedures. Your Mission:
An operating room (OR) radiology technologist is a specialized radiologic technologist who works within the surgical environment, providing real-time imaging support to surgeons during procedures . This is crucial for guiding surgical techniques and confirming the accurate placement of instruments and devices. What You’ll Do:
Operating Imaging Equipment:
OR radiology technologists primarily operate C-arm machines and other portable X-ray equipment in the operating room.
Real-time Imaging:
They use fluoroscopy, a type of real-time X-ray imaging, to help surgeons visualize internal structures during procedures. This is particularly important for procedures like spinal fusions, orthopedic reconstructions, and fracture repairs.
Patient Positioning:
They carefully position patients and the C-arm to obtain optimal images from various angles, ensuring surgeon guidance throughout the procedure.
Radiation Safety:
They are responsible for ensuring the safety of patients and staff by following strict radiation safety protocols and minimizing exposure, which includes using lead aprons and ensuring everyone in the room is properly shielded. Collaboration with

OR technologists work closely with surgeons, nurses, and other members of the surgical team, communicating and coordinating their work to ensure a smooth and efficient surgical process.
Maintaining Equipment:
They perform routine checks and maintain imaging equipment, ensuring proper working condition and promptly reporting any issues.
Understanding Surgical Procedures and Protocols:
They need to be knowledgeable about different surgical procedures and the specific imaging needs of each surgeon, adapting their techniques and positioning accordingly. ?
What We’re Looking For:
Education:
High School Diploma or GED, required. Graduate of an accredited Radiology program or a certified/accredited/JCERT hospital based program and credentialed by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Required.
Experience:
Two years experience in diagnostic radiology, preferred.
Licensure/Certification:

Good communication skills, capable of functioning alone in diagnostic rooms, working knowledge of various types of x-ray equipment, able to adapt to various situations and procedures.
