TravelA CT Technologist (CT Tech) operatescomputed tomography (CT) scanners to perform diagnostic imagingprocedures for patients. The CT Tech is responsible for obtaininghigh-quality images of a patient’s body, which are used byphysicians to diagnose conditions such as injuries, infections,cancers, and other abnormalities. The CT Tech ensures patientcomfort and safety, prepares the imaging equipment, and assists thehealthcare team in obtaining diagnostic information.

Key Responsibilities:
Patient Preparation and Communication:

Prepare patients for CT scans by explaining the procedure,answering any questions, and ensuring they arecomfortable. Verify patient information, including medical history,allergies, and prior imaging, to ensure accurate diagnosis andappropriate imaging protocols. Position patients properly on the CT table to obtain thenecessary images, ensuring patient safety and comfort throughoutthe process. Instruct patients on how to hold their breath or remain stillduring scans, as required by the procedure.

Operation of CT Equipment:

Operate and calibrate the CT scanner, ensuring proper settingsfor each scan, including parameters such as radiation dose, slicethickness, and imaging protocols. Administer contrast agents or dye injections (under physicianor radiologist guidance) to enhance image clarity during certain CTprocedures. Monitor the equipment during imaging to ensure high-qualityimages are captured and that no errors occur during theprocess.

Image Quality and Review:

Review the CT images for quality, ensuring that all requiredareas are captured and the images meet diagnosticstandards. Work closely with radiologists to ensure that images are ofsufficient quality to support diagnosis. Repeat or adjust scans as necessary to improve image quality orensure comprehensive imaging coverage.

Patient Safety and Comfort:

Follow safety protocols to minimize radiation exposure topatients, including using the lowest possible dose for effectiveimaging and utilizing shielding where appropriate. Maintain a sterile, safe, and clean environment in the CT room,ensuring all equipment is sanitized between patients. Ensure proper patient positioning to prevent any risk of injuryor discomfort during the scan, especially for vulnerable patientssuch as those with spinal injuries, mobility challenges, orpregnant patients. Monitor patients for any adverse reactions to contrast agentsand alert the physician or healthcare provider if necessary.

Collaboration and Communication:

Work closely with physicians, radiologists, nurses, and otherhealthcare professionals to determine the appropriate imagingprocedures and assist in diagnosing medical conditions. Document patient information, scan parameters, contrast mediaused, and any complications in the electronic health record(EHR). Participate in patient care planning, discussing with the teamhow to best approach imaging in complex cases.

Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

Maintain, clean, and perform basic troubleshooting on the CTscanner and associated equipment, ensuring everything isfunctioning properly. Perform routine inspections and calibration of CT equipment andalert maintenance staff to any malfunctioning or unsafeequipment. Keep accurate logs of equipment use, maintenance, and anyrepairs or service performed.

Radiation Safety and Compliance:

Follow all radiation safety protocols to protect both patientsand staff, including the use of appropriate shielding and adheringto dosage guidelines. Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, including HIPAA,safety standards, and Joint Commission guidelines. Stay updated on changes to regulatory standards, includingradiation safety, patient privacy, and procedural guidelines.

Documentation and Record Keeping:

Accurately document imaging procedures, patient information,and any adverse events or changes in patient status. Ensure all documentation is compliant with hospital or clinicpolicies, medical record-keeping regulations, and industrystandards. Assist with maintaining patient flow by providing quickturnaround times for imaging results when needed.

Patient Education and Support:

Provide education and guidance to patients regarding aftercarefollowing contrast injections, potential side effects, andfollow-up procedures. Address patient concerns about the procedure, including fearsof radiation exposure or claustrophobia, offering support asnecessary. Ensure patient privacy and dignity are maintained throughoutthe imaging process.

Professional Development and Training:

Participate in continuing education to stay current withadvancements in CT imaging technology, protocols, and safetyprocedures. Attend in-house training sessions and seminars on new imagingtechniques or equipment. Maintain professional certification and licensure, includingany continuing education requirements.
