Performs diagnostics exams as well as mammography exams. Schedules pient for exams and maintains daily log of pients and procedures to be incorpored into stistical management workload profiles. Receives and positions pient for examinion. Explains procedures and actions to allay fears and secure maximum cooperion. Assist the radiologist in the performance of special mammography tests. Receives pients, positions pient, selects and sets technical factors for requested diagnostic examinions. Sets up, adjusts and operes diagnostic radiography equipment. Functions with little or no supervision in the performance of complex radiographic examinions including fluoroscopy, C-Arm, excretory urograms and modified studies. Performs Quality Control procedures, which may include (but not exclusively) the following: automic processor film strips; fixer retention or hypo test; automic processor developer temperure measurements; reject/repe film analysis; screen cleaning regiment; screen film contact; grid alignment and artifacts; mammography equipment phantom and reproducibility; automic exposure control density and field sensitivity; darkroom safelight and integrity tests; view box consistency and uniformity; compression test. Responsible for creing, implementing, collecting, critiquing and preparing all mammography documents/ reports for up-to-de da to ensure th the ACR, FDA and VA mandes are always within the prescribed standards. Responsible for submitting annual updes to the ACR to ensure compliance and continued operion of mammography section. Every three years, submits hard copy films and associed documents to the ACR. The ACR review da and films will determine if the medical center can continue to opere under its current or renewed license. Recognizes anomy and its phology and makes adjustments as necessary to ensure th proper identificion of said anomy is well visualized in order to achieve optimal diagnosis by the radiologist. Keeps abreast of technological advances in the fields of mammography. Maintains ARRT and BCLS license/ certificions. Ensures th the examinion rooms and work rooms are kept clean and ne in appearance. Provides reports of accomplishments, proposals for improved effectiveness and ste of equipment. Assists the radiologist in performing complex procedures such as biopsies, needle punctures, fistulograms, etc. Troubleshoots equipment used in mammography by monitoring the daily, weekly, and quarterly QC procedures to make suggestions about repairs and/or adjustments. Must recognize and report major equipment malfunctions within a timely manner to Radiology Manager or a BioMed Representive. Coordines incoming and outgoing image movements. Dispches images and reports to outside physicians and hospitals. Maintains a log of all radiographs received from outside sources. Monitors these radiographs to be certain all radiographs on loan are returned in a timely manner to maintain good working relions with outside facilities. Employs up-to-de record keeping and tracking mechanisms. Responsible for explaining exams to pients in terms the pient will comprehend as well as recognize potential hazards. May be required by procedure or pient’s condition to monitor vital signs, recognize allergic reactions and initie cardiopulmonary resuscition. Receives and interprets all mammography radiology requests. Inputs pertinent radiology informion into computer. Register, cancel and edit requests via the computer radiology informion system (RIS). Compiles computer genered Radiology reports and distributes to approprie clinics and physicians. Valides and sends lay summary letter to every pient once the mammogram has been reported by a radiologist and communices consults as needed. Maintains all BIRAD reports as manded by the FDA and ACR. Properly identifies pient films using flash identifiers, L & R markers, and positional markers. This is essential to prevent mistaken identity of films. Must be certain pient identificion and the requests are identical. Ensures th all mammograms images or films are displayed appropriely. All other duties assigned.

Certificion:

All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certificion is required for Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Advanced certificion indices th the technologist has demonstred specific clinical competency in the approprie specialty and taken and passed the designed examinion.

Educion:

Completion of a full-time training course of least 24 months in durion (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certifice or an associe degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Educion in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Educion (DOE). Credentialing Standards. Public Law 97-35, the Consumer-Pient Radiion Health and Safety Act of 1981, requires th persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75, Standards for the Accredition of Educional Programs and the Credentialing of Radiographic Personnel. Essentially, they must have successfully completed an educional program th meets or exceeds the standards described in th regulion and is accredited by an organizion recognized by the U.S. Department of Educion and be certified as radiographers in their field.

Grade Determinions :

GS-09: In addition to the basic requirements for employment as listed above, applicants must have least one year of specialized experience equivalent to least the GS-08 grade level independently providing radiologic services with occasional oversight or direction for highly complex issues. Examples of qualifying experience includes, but is not limited to: experience checking radiologic systems for operion and assessing acceptable performance based on established guidelines; making calibrion parameter adjustments as needed; monitoring a pients physiologic changes during procedures and keeping the radiologist informed, experience with the pients clinical record, diagnosis, and laborory results; experience using tact, diplomacy, and courtesy in dealings with the customer base, pients, staff, family, ors, and volunteers; experience utilizing knowledge of anomy and physiology, and cross-sectional anomy, recognizing unusual images, and determining proper positioning to best demonstre areas of interest.
