Summary:

Conducts procedures and tests using Computerized Tomography (CT)equipment to acquire and analyze patient diagnostic data.

Responsibilities:

1. Patient Identification- Uses professional manners and methods,verifies patient identification, obtains patient history, assistspatients and family members that require extra attention, insurespatient understanding whenever possible, and insures patientsafety. Verifies patient identification, asks and documentspregnancy status on patients of child bearing age. 2. CT Scans- Obtains images per protocols, manipulates imagesaccording to protocols, performs multi-planar and 3D reconstructionof image data, demonstrates a thorough knowledge of CT algorithms,and selects appropriate window and level setting according toanatomy. 3. Contrast- Administers oral contrast to adult and pediatricpatients according to protocols, establishes intravenous lines,administers IV contrast following safe and proper injectionprocedures, follows correct procedure to determine contrasteligibility, checks appropriate lab values before contrastinjection per protocol. 4. Image Transfer- Maintains thorough understanding of PACS, andtransmits images to QC, UNCH’s EMR, EPIC and PACS, verifies andsegments images at the QC station, accesses IMPAX service tools toverify images transmission, completes, modifies and/or cancelsorders in an appropriate and timely manner, cancels duplicateorders to avoid duplicate billing. Insures that all chargeinformation is accurate. Verifies patient identification inaccordance with UNC policy, insures that all appropriatedemographic information is accurate and on the PACS images. 5. Other Duties- Performs task in a timely manner, runs theschedule creating a consistent workflow, volunteers to work onchallenging tasks, difficult procedures and new research, producesquality diagnostic images, reviews patient’s chart and reports forcorrelation, maintains a clean and orderly work environment,creates and keeps documentation of incidents as improvementopportunities for employees and the department. Education Requirements:
  • Completion of an accredited educational program in RadiologicalScience or completion within 3 months at time of application.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
  • Must be registered with the American Registry of RadiologicalSciences or registry eligible.
For registry eligible candidates:

must provide a copy of diploma from accredited program.

  • Requires advanced certification in CT within one year ofemployment.
  • Successful candidates must become registered within one year ofemployment and must maintain their registry status and continuingeducation requirements annually.
  • All imaging specialists are required to maintain currentcompetency in HCP BLS.
Professional Experience Requirements:
  • Prior education, training and experience that provides theability to perform the assigned tasks.
