JobSummary:
The role of the Rad Tech / Medical Assistant is to providehigh quality imaging procedures to the patients and physicians ofthe Bone & Joint Institute in a respectful and efficient mannerwhile providing those services in a safe and clean environment.
Formal Education /
Training:
Earned a Radiologic Technology diplomaor degree from a college or university. Must have Tennessee MedicalX-ray Operator License and ARRT. Medical Assistant experiencepreferred, but not required.
Workplace Experience:
Preference of atleast one year work experience in clinic setting after graduationand accreditation; however, willing to train. Orthopaedicexperience preferred, but not required.
Equipment and SkillsTraining:
Possesses general knowledge of many types of x-rayequipment and computers. Will train on specific equipment andprocesses utilized at Bone and Joint Institute. Must be competentin patient assessment, taking vital signs, intake of medicalhistory, confirming medications, suture removal, splint removal,wound care, use of EMR, strong customer service skills, teamplayer, and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Environment:
Radiation safety and universal precautionspracticed in a multimodality imaging department. Medical officeenvironment.
Physical Effort:
Possesses the ability to performmultifunctional tasks to include: physically manipulate and operateequipment, assist in the movement of patients from wheelchairs andstretchers to table; sit, stand, bend, twist, stoop; lift over 20pounds; communicate in English clearly, both verbally and inwriting; make appropriate judgement decisions in urgent oremergency situations; and demonstrate emotional stability andpsychological health in day to day interaction with fellowemployees, patients, their families, and physicians.
Key Results:
1. Checks patient identification and providers order to ensureaccuracy of request before proceeding with study. 2. Questionsfemale patients (ages 12-50) regarding the possibility of pregnancyand properly documents information in record. 3. Consistently wearsradiation dosimeter badge and turns it in at the designated timeframe. 4. Provides proper radiation safety protection for allpersons, to include self. Follows
ALARA, IMAGE GENTLY AND IMAGEWISELY. 5.
Accurately records patient’s medical history,medications, and vital signs Documents patient care, education, andresults in EMR. Proficient in entering billing and orders. Ensuresall requests from provider and patients are completed. 6. Removessutures, splints, provides wound care, gives intramuscularinjections, and assists provider with office procedures. Maintainsthe dignity of each patient by ensuring the patient is properlycovered at all times; during exam and patient transport. 7.Coordinates referrals to other medical services such as MRIs,procedures, physical therapy, occupational therapy, etc. Securesconsultations and specialist when indicated. 8. Works well in ateam environment; eager to help others and covers other clinicswhen indicated. Makes good use of time. Volunteers for over- timeand fill-in when needed. 9. Participates in activities that improvedepartment effectiveness, processes, communication, and/or image inthe organization. This includes attending 75% of all staff/departmental meetings. Shows leadership in difficult situations andmakes appropriate decisions. 10. Ensures the safety of patients byfollowing all safety procedures while moving patients fromwheelchair or stretcher to table and observing patient while onradiology table. Observes universal precautions. Adheres todepartmental policies related to safety, infection control, andbiohazard waste. 11. Performs high quality studies consistently.12.
