Summary:

Conductsprocedures and tests using Computerized Tomography (CT) equipmentto acquire and analyze patient diagnostic data.

Responsibilities:

1.Patient Identification- Uses professional manners and methods,verifies patient identification, obtains patient history, assistspatients and family members that require extra attention, insurespatient understanding whenever possible, and insures patientsafety. Verifies patient identification, asks and documentspregnancy status on patients of child bearing age.2. CT Scans-Obtains images per protocols, manipulates images according toprotocols, performs multi-planar and 3D reconstruction of imagedata, demonstrates a thorough knowledge of CT algorithms, andselects appropriate window and level setting according toanatomy.3. Contrast- Administers oral contrast to adult andpediatric patients according to protocols, establishes intravenouslines, administers IV contrast following safe and proper injectionprocedures, follows correct procedure to determine contrasteligibility, checks appropriate lab values before contrastinjection per protocol.4. Image Transfer- Maintains thoroughunderstanding of PACS, and transmits images to QC, UNCH’s EMR, EPICand PACS, verifies and segments images at the QC station, accessesIMPAX service tools to verify images transmission, completes,modifies and/or cancels orders in an appropriate and timely manner,cancels duplicate orders to avoid duplicate billing. Insures thatall charge information is accurate. Verifies patient identificationin accordance with UNC policy, insures that all appropriatedemographic information is accurate and on the PACS images.5. OtherDuties- Performs task in a timely manner, runs the schedulecreating a consistent workflow, volunteers to work on challengingtasks, difficult procedures and new research, produces qualitydiagnostic images, reviews patient’s chart and reports forcorrelation, maintains a clean and orderly work environment,creates and keeps documentation of incidents as improvementopportunities for employees and the department. EducationRequirements:
  • Completion of an accredited educational program inRadiological Science or completion within 3 months at time ofapplication.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
  • Must beregistered with the American Registry of Radiological Sciences orregistry eligible.
For registry eligible candidates:

must provide acopy of diploma from accredited program.

  • Requires advancedcertification in CT within one year of employment.
  • Successfulcandidates must become registered within one year of employment andmust maintain their registry status and continuing educationrequirements annually.
  • All imaging specialists are required tomaintain current competency in HCP BLS.
Professional ExperienceRequirements:
  • Prior education, training and experience thatprovides the ability to perform the assigned tasks.

Two years of CTscanning with Stroke, Procedure, and Cardiac experience. PreferSiemens trained.
