Job Summary The individual will perform procedures in accordance withdepartmental protocols and standards. They will operate MRIscanners and associated equipment with a high level of proficiency.

This equipment includes the scanner, post-processingstations/programs, IV contrast injectors, O2 and suction equipment,patient transport, and patient monitoring equipment. Essential Functions

  • Examine requests and verify orders for each assigned patient.

Refer and question orders to the Radiologist before performingexams. Contact ordering provider when there are discrepancies.

  • Properly identify patients using two patient identifiers andassist them while offering a brief explanation of the procedures.

Prepare patients for the procedure with a full explanation anddocument on appropriate worksheets.

  • Interview patients for a complete medical history and reviewin-patients, ER, and outpatients EMR’s to obtain pertinent clinicalhistory. Record medical history on requisitions and correlate othertest results and laboratory data with the exam being performed.
  • Assume responsibility for the exam from the beginning until thecompletion of dictated results. Prepare and administer IV contrastaccording to departmental protocols and record contrast type andamount on request.
  • Evaluate the technical quality of images and consult with aRadiologist if needed. Recognize abnormal anatomy and process anyadditional, reconstructed images, and/or measurements asinstructed.
  • Perform basic patient care functions and inform appropriatenursing personnel of any changes in the patient’s condition.

Initiate life support measures for patients when necessary andassist in “code blue” procedures during medical emergencies.

  • Perform MRI scanning and assist Physicians/PA during invasiveprocedures. Practice proper sterile technique in the preparation ofnecessary supplies and perform all invasive procedures inaccordance with bloodborne pathogens, isolation, and infectioncontrol policies and procedures.
  • Authorized to obtain medication or contrast material as directedfor administration by a licensed practitioner. Practice theprinciple of radiation safety for self, employees, patients, andfamily members, and follow appropriate radiation safetystandards.
  • Report malfunctioning equipment to the departmentdirector/manager/supervisor and clinical engineering/radiologyengineer. Maintain knowledge and skills required to work safely inan environment that can create significant exposure to bloodbornepathogens and infectious diseases.
  • Adhere to hospital fire and safety procedures, attend allin-service classes, and complete all required safety modules.

Operate the radiology computer system to include entering ordersand charging procedures/supplies. Document contrast administrationin the MAR.

  • Maintain assigned work area in a neat and orderly fashion. Keepthe area completely stocked and clean all work areas to promotecleanliness in the workplace. Assist other medical personnel, suchas anesthesia, when performing exams or services in conjunctionwith an MRI scan.
  • Maintain knowledge of all MRI safety requirements for both staffand patients while in and around magnetic fields. Skills

  • Requires moderate to heavy physicalefforts in lifting and moving patients, equipment, and supplies.

Occasional standing, walking, and sitting during normal operation.

Frequently may be required to stretch, bend, twist, squat, or kneelin the daily operation of the MRI department. May be exposed tovarious physical conditions throughout the day such as walking onhard surfaces, climbing stairs, being near moving equipment.

Required to use radiation safety guidelines to prevent exposure toionizing radiation. Education Graduate of an accredited two-year AMA approved program inRadiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology or active enrollment inan ARMRIT or ARRT registry eligible program required. ARRT (MR)required. BLS (AHA or ARC) required. Additional Information

  • Level III trauma hospital. High volumeED, IP, OP, experience with Siemens 3T, Client 1.5T, and EPIC.
