#AlliedJob SummaryThe individual will perform procedures inaccordance with departmental protocols and standards. They willoperate MRI scanners and associated equipment with a high level ofproficiency. This equipment includes the scanner, post-processingstations/programs, IV contrast injectors, O2 and suction equipment,patient transport, and patient monitoring equipment.
EssentialFunctions
- Examine requests and verify orders for each assignedpatient. Refer and question orders to the Radiologist beforeperforming exams. Contact ordering provider when there arediscrepancies.
- Properly identify patients using two patientidentifiers and assist them while offering a brief explanation ofthe procedures. Prepare patients for the procedure with a fullexplanation and document on appropriate worksheets.
- Interviewpatients for a complete medical history and review in-patients, ER,and outpatients EMR’s to obtain pertinent clinical history. Recordmedical history on requisitions and correlate other test resultsand laboratory data with the exam being performed.
- Assumeresponsibility for the exam from the beginning until the completionof dictated results. Prepare and administer IV contrast accordingto departmental protocols and record contrast type and amount onrequest.
- Evaluate the technical quality of images and consult witha Radiologist if needed. Recognize abnormal anatomy and process anyadditional, reconstructed images, and/or measurements asinstructed.
- Perform basic patient care functions and informappropriate nursing personnel of any changes in the patient’scondition. Initiate life support measures for patients whennecessary and assist in “code blue” procedures during medicalemergencies.
- Perform MRI scanning and assist Physicians/PA duringinvasive procedures. Practice proper sterile technique in thepreparation of necessary supplies and perform all invasiveprocedures in accordance with bloodborne pathogens, isolation, andinfection control policies and procedures.
- Authorized to obtainmedication or contrast material as directed for administration by alicensed practitioner. Practice the principle of radiation safetyfor self, employees, patients, and family members, and followappropriate radiation safety standards.
- Report malfunctioningequipment to the department director/manager/supervisor andclinical engineering/radiology engineer. Maintain knowledge andskills required to work safely in an environment that can createsignificant exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectiousdiseases.
- Adhere to hospital fire and safety procedures, attendall in-service classes, and complete all required safety modules.
Operate the radiology computer system to include entering ordersand charging procedures/supplies. Document contrast administrationin the MAR.
- Maintain assigned work area in a neat and orderlyfashion. Keep the area completely stocked and clean all work areasto promote cleanliness in the workplace. Assist other medicalpersonnel, such as anesthesia, when performing exams or services inconjunction with an MRI scan.
- Maintain knowledge of all MRI safetyrequirements for both staff and patients while in and aroundmagnetic fields.

Physical Requirements:
- Requires moderate toheavy physical efforts in lifting and moving patients, equipment,and supplies.
Occasional standing, walking, and sitting duringnormal operation. Frequently may be required to stretch, bend,twist, squat, or kneel in the daily operation of the MRIdepartment. May be exposed to various physical conditionsthroughout the day such as walking on hard surfaces, climbingstairs, being near moving equipment. Required to use radiationsafety guidelines to prevent exposure to ionizingradiation.
EducationGraduate of an accredited two-year AMA approvedprogram in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology or activeenrollment in an ARMRIT or ARRT registry eligible program required.
ARRT (MR) required. BLS (AHA or ARC) required.

Weekend Program Differential:
- $8.00 per hour forhours worked in the weekend program time period. (Friday 7 a.m. -Monday 7:30 a.m.)
