Description:

Majorthe RN in collection of data for an objective assessment toidentify patient needs. May be cross trained to work in multipleareas including the admit/discharge area in Endo and OSC, in theInterventional Procedure area as a procedure assistant, and in thetransport department.

Provides technical skills as a member of theteam, communicating with supervisors, other staff members, otherdepartment staff members, physicians and anesthesiologists. Assistsphysician with various procedures including but not limited to:

EGD, flexible sigmoidoscopies, Colonoscopies, Bronchoscopies,PEG/JPEG/NG placement and exchange, EBUS, diagnostic andtherapeutic EUS procedures, ERCP. Fine needle aspiration, BRAVOetc. Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions.

Responsible for procedureroom preparation and turnover. Gathers and organizes requiredsupplies and non-controlled pharmaceuticals for procedures.

Restocks supplies as needed; may order supplies. Ensures thattravel carts used for emergency procedures are restocked and fullyfunctional.

Maintains a safe environment for patients and staff bycomplying with regulatory agency requirements and hospital policy,including use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment perhospital policy. Prepares room for isolation and protection of allstaff from airborne diseases such as TB, including the use of airflow systems and special masks.

Maintains knowledge and awareness ofprofessional and practice issues related to the field ofendoscopy/gastroenterology and pulmonology. Attends in services andself-identifies learning needs regarding equipment and procedures.

SGNA certification strongly encouraged upon meeting eligibilityrequirements.

Enters data to include names of all staff present andscopes utilized into documentation system. Responsible forcollection, labeling and handling all specimens collected duringprocedures.

Member of the Endoscopy Call Team. Remains calm inemergent situations; adapts readily to dynamic patient situationsby having appropriate equipment selected and prepared for urgentutilization by the physician.

Participates in organizational anddepartmental performance improvement activities. May be an activemember of the Unit Based Council, quality committees, RBC teametc.

Serves as a preceptor to train all new staff including new Endotechs and RNs. May assist in training MDs with newequipment.

Responsible for the decontamination/high-leveldisinfection of all types of endoscopes according to equipmentManufacturers’ guidelines and SGNA recommended practice. Maintainsdocumentation records of reprocessing for quality purposesincluding all scope washer quality measures. Maintains records ofsterilization, changes solutions as required, changes filters asrequired and does QCs as required.
