School of Radiologic Technology Description:
TheMammography Technologist is responsible for performing mammographyexaminations following ACR requirements. This position assists withbreast ultrasound, stereotactic biopsy, breast localization, andother radiologic guided procedures. Performs diagnostic andscreening mammographic examinations on adult, adolescent, andgeriatric patients in an expedient and professional manner.
Conducts mammographic imaging for breast needle localizationprocedures and stereotactic procedures, including setup andcleanup. Assists in procedures using ultrasound guidance. Providesimmobilization devices, selects proper technical factors based onindividual patient needs, and operates equipment for specificprocedures. Identifies patient films with the correct name, x-raynumber, and correctly marks films as to the side of the patient.
Initials all films and develops exposed x-ray film using processingmethods. Completes patient requisitions with technologist’sinitials, date, number, and size of films. Assists with qualitycontrol procedures and documentation, including phantom imagetests, darkroom fog tests, repeat analysis, and more, as delegated.
Assists in patient education, including breast self-examination(BSE) instruction and pre/post procedure instructions. Preparescases to be imaged including chart and films. Compiles statisticsfor patient follow-ups, tracking of breast localizations, neededbiopsies, and ultrasound examinations. Documents proceduresregarding quality control and quality assurance for mammography incompliance with professional guidelines. Identifies the needs ofthe patient population served and modifies care delivery asspecific to those needs. Communicates with patients, parents,and/or primary caregivers at their level of understanding. Performsother duties and/or projects as assigned. Adheres to organizationalcompetencies and standards of behavior.
